poda island
Beach at Poda Island Krabi (Monday 14th April 2008)
I woke from my unconscious state and instantly realized i need to be somewhere. It took few seconds for me to work out where i was and where I was supposed to be. then it clicked. Getting picked up at 8am to go on a island tour. The tour included the visit of 4 islands just south of krabi and then a trip up to the hong islands (5 islands). I went for my watch hoping i wasn’t late. Luckily i wasn't, it was 7.30.
Man i felt really tired 7 like total crap! I thought back to yesterday, it kind of felt that okay, through out the day i'd had quite a few beers but it was spread out over a long time and I didn't feel at any point i'd gone daft with the beer. Anyway, no matter how much i'd drunk i was stuck with my hangover. I was really tempted to sack the trip off and go back to bed but i didn't.
I got picked up on time and made our way to Ao Nang where we would rendezvous with our longboat for the day. Whilst sitting on
a wall along side the beach and road in a comatosed state waiting which seemed like an eternity for us to leave i heard tyres screech then saw a girl gingerly picking herself up off the road with the help of a guy. She had just fell off her motorbike. She seemed okay..ish but obviously in lots of pain and with a damaged leg as she couldn’t walk very well. Good start to the day i thought!
Eventually we set off. in our boat there were about 10 of us. Mostly couples - some from Australia, some Orientals, a European couple, a Canadian guy and Me. First stop was poda island. Got there had a swim and snorkel, had a walk along the beach....nice place, still feel like crashing out.
From there went to Tup island. This is where one of the most shocking, upsetting and worst moments of my life took place. I saw a lifeless young thai boy dragged out of the water who had drown, i saw his fathers reactions, i saw and felt the panic and looked around and saw and felt every ones faces and feelings as they stood, watched totally horrified and
stunned. During writing this experience in detail on today entry, i thought its just too sad and depressing so i decided to delete it and not to fully share this experience with you and have it in my travel blog. The good news is, luckily the beach was very busy and there was someone who new CPR & the young boy was eventually revived and took to hospital, just hope fingers crossed he's okay. After that though i didn't really feel like doing fun touristy stuff...but we carried on with our tour. Just a reminder how fragile and precious life is.
From there we went to Chicken Island then had a long journey to hong island. Hong island was stunning, it had 2 beautiful turquoise watered covers separated by lime stones rocks. The back drop to the coves was beautiful forest and high lime stone cliffs. The sand was so soft, like powder or flour. Probably the nicest sand I’ve stepped foot on. This is where we had lunch which was surprisingly really good for an all inclusive lunch. Then I had an hour to chill out on a quiet pact of the beach and have a bit of
ko hong
Arial view of ko hong shut eye and hopefully feel a little bit better when i wake. I didn’t lol. From there we went to hong lagoon, lading island Pakbia island and Rai island. All very nice but definitely the highlight of the day was hong island but ill always remember this day not for the highlight and a beautful island but for that young thai boy.
I got back to Krabi quite late. Managed to catch the sunset from the roof top of my guest house. I wanted to go to bed and wake up tomorrow with my hangover been a distant memory...... but yesterday i had agreed to go to a Thai party with Veevee from the jam club. Jude was holding the party at his bar in Krabi.
I dragged myself down to the Jam bar and tried to talk myself out of going. But Veevee insisted on me going and i think she would have been upset if i didn’t go and to be honest it would have been rude and wrong to let her down. I agreed to go but i wasn’t having a late night! After a few pineapple juices (which i am now addicted to) we
walked to the party (with the lady boy too). Luckily the party was a bit of an informal, not too mental do - just a bbq, few beers, live Thai band who were very good, We left there at 10.15..ish and went back to the jam bar for 1. I left at 10.30 in much need of my bed, for some reason Veevee insisted on walking me back to my guest house?! hhmmmmm i think she likes me lol!
