Nicky: Hello everyone, hope you are all ok? I don't know how many of you had bets on this happening but just to let you know, we are engaged!!!! Neil had planned it all along and got down on one knee on a very beautiful beach in a place called Bingil Bay. We had spent the last two days there as it was right on the beach, lined with coconut trees and for most of the time we were the only ones there. I can honestly say that I didn't see it coming!! I don't think I have stopped giggling since last night!!

The rest of the week has been spent much as the last few have been slowly topping up the tan and viewing 100s of km of beautiful scenery and wildlife. We have encountered birds - not my favourite thing! - and a cheeky possum who helped himself to the left over sausage mash and beans that were in the pans waiting to be washed up, a not very nice spider and a frog that was IN the toilet at one of our campsites! I have grown really used to checking the toilets when i go in to make sure there is nothing bad in there but I have never had to check the actual loo before - scared the life out of me. We have also driven through the Whitsundays area on our way in the last few days. We didnt actually visit any of the islands but the sea was the bluest I have ever seen and the vegetation around the area was incredible. I can't believe we have only got a few days left in Australia, it has been beautiful and amazing and we have seen so much.

Neil:

Hello all!! Our journey has taken us further up the coast towards Cairns and since our last blog we've stayed in some great beach side camp grounds. A couple of nights ago we stayed in a place called Seaforth - just up from the larger town of Mackay. It was a lovely beach side camp and it gave us a chance to do some relaxing after many more miles on the road. There were loads of Parakeets that we're obviously used to being fed by campers, so they were quite tame - and a possum that came by at night - it was really good to see them up close. One of our camping neighbours gave us a large fillet of Yellow Tail that he'd caught earlier in the day so we threw it on the barbie - gougeous.

The north coast is very different from the south - we can't go in the sea anymore because of the jellyfish - either stingers or box!! There are also saltwater crocodiles that swim out of the creeks and into the sea. As a result all of the surfers that we saw on the coast in New South Wales have been replaced with fishermen. The birds have got a lot bigger (huge eagles and big black Cockatoos) as have the butterflies and there are frogs appearing!! In fact only the other night Nicky came running from the toilet after she found she was not the only one using it!! (see pics)

And so to our special beach - Bingil Bay, just north of mission beach. It was a stunning tropical beach with turquiose waters and soft golden sand overhung by palm trees. We camped almost on the sand, so we had a great view from our bed in the morning. As you've read above - the long awaited question has been popped - quite a scary experience! I cooked a green prawn curry and sat overlooking the sea with the sun going down - and then prompted a walk along the beach which we had entirely to ourselves. Then I just plonked one knee down in the sand and asked away!!
