Hi Guys,

We are alive and survived the curry.. Ha ha! We are now down South in a place called Cochin (Kerala). Just to give you an idea of how big India is, it took us 3 hours... By PLANE from Delhi to get here. The last blog we mentioned we were on route to Jaipur. Jaipur city is split into 3 places, old, pink and new. We stayed on the border of new and pink. On the way in we stopped off at the Monkey Temple Old Jaipur. This was one scary but fascinating place. The temple itself was obviously very old, with demented looking monkeys roaming freely. As soon as we arrived we were led away deep into the temple by one of the holy men where he then performed a good luck ritual. (see pics). Pretty cool.

We drove to New Jaipur through Pink Jaipur. There we visited various palaces and museums. We finished the day at the movie theatre as they call it. And that it was. Very grand and nothing like our local Odeon. We watched a premier of a film called "Black and White". In Hindi language of course with a few English words and subtitles thrown in.

The following day (08/03/08) we drove back to Delhi (5 hours) where we then flew to Cochin. We shared a taxi with 2 middle aged German ladies to Fort Cochin. On Sunday night we watched "Kathakali"........ traditional Indian dancing. Not a good time for our batteries to run out.. Doh! It was fab.

On Monday we left Fort Cochin for a much needed 2 day stay in Alleppey. We stayed in a farm house over looking the famous Kerala back waters. Pure bliss. 3 big meals a day (local Kerala dishes) plus snacks and unlimited back water cruises. A rare treat. The family that own the farm land were lovely people, they spoke very little English but we got by. Last night they invited us to one of their Christian services with 22 people of all ages from the village. It was a nice gesture and lovely to witness such community spirit.

On the move again we are now back in Fort Cochin for one night only before our flight to the gateway to India Mumbai (Bombey).
