Sri Lanka, The Ancient Cities

An amazing country where the bus driver stops in the middle of the road in between villages when he sees that you are trying to take a picture, or stops your connecting bus in the middle of the road , so you can catch it and get faster to your destination. Where the people who sits on the public transport holds the heavy burdens of those who standing ( from bags to kids ; )
Where no matter where you go, you will be greated with smiles. Where everybody is happy to talk to you and they are happy to just do that. Where when it rains a total stranger will share his or her umbrella or invite you in for a tea. Where you can rent a bike and if you don't use it, the owner of the rental place insists to give you back the money. Where the loud noise and inviting smells coming from the Kotthu Roti maker does not let you sleep. Where you can have the best curry ever, and it always tastes different.
( and that is a lot to say after spending 3 months in Nepal and 2 in India)
Sadly it is also a country in War with itself, a War claiming many inocent lives and builds up tension in major hubs. Military checkpoints are many and the soldiers are ready to shoot at any time. These young man with their bulletproof vests, big guns and straight faces are here to remind you of the ruthless terrorist attacks and counterattacks from the government. You can feel the tension most notably in Colombo, but I guess that's why so many tourist skip the capital when visiting. a bit nerve racking if you ask me, but I am glad that I made the trip. I have made some wonderful friends, eat some really flavourful food and visited some of the ancient cities. I hope you will like the pictures : )

Egy fantasztikus ország,hol a buszvezető megáll az út közepén, ha azt látja, hogy fotózni akarod a tájat, vagy, hogy elcsípjed a csatlakozást, ha a következő busz már kikanyarodott a pályaudvarról. Hol a buszon ülök az álló utasok csomagjait (gyerekeit) az ölükbe veszik, hogy könnyítsenek utastársaikon. Hol mindegy merre jársz mindenhol mosoly fogad. Hol Mindenki boldog, ha beszélgethet veled és meg is teszi ezt, időt fáradtságot nem sajnálva. Hol amikor elered, az eső mindig akad valaki, aki megosztja veled az esernyőjét. Ahol, ha nem használod a bérelt biciklid a kölcsönzős ragaszkodik ahhoz, hogy visszaadja a bérleti díjat. Ahol az ínycsiklandozó illatok és a hangos csattogás mely a Kotthu Rotit készítő szakácstól jön nem hagy aludni. S hol életed legfinomabb kürrijét eheted s az minden alkalommal más ízű. (ez nagy szó 3 hónap Nepál és 2 hónap India után)
Sajnálatos módon az ország harcban áll saját magával és a feszültség érzékelhető mindenhol. rengeteg katonai csekkpoint egymást éri és a fiatal férfiak arcán látszik az elszántság. Lövésre készen állnak Állig felfegyverkezve golyóálló gúnyában a 30 fokos melegben. A háború rengeteg áldozatot szedett, s az ország igazan vágyakozik a béke után.Kissé idegölő, főleg amikor megtudom, hogy a Colombo Dambulla járaton bomba robbant egy nappal azután ugyanazon a buszon mellyel en utaztam. A feszültséget főként a fővárosban lehet észlelni, valószínűleg ezért is hagyja ki legtöbb turista. Én örülök, hogy meglátogattam e csodás országot. Találkoztam új barátokkal, ettem rengeteg eddig nem kóstolt finomságot és meglátogattam pár romos történelmi jelentőségű helyet. Remélem, tetszenek majd a fotók 😊

Hi I was just reading your blog during a break at work and just want to say how well written it is and the pictures are so expressive and just absolutely stunning. I am Sri Lankan and live in NZ so the pictures brought back so many good memories. Thanks Eranda
