The entertainment
Jessie and Caitlin put on a show for us. First night out in London last night! I roped a rather distant friend (friend of my old flatmate Gaynor) into taking me out because I couldn't handle another Saturday night sitting at home in on of the most exciting cities in the world... plan B was to get boozy with Errol and then go out by myself and sit in a pub until I made friends.
I'm parrot sitting Errol for a friend of the people that I am house sitting for. I only have him for a few days, but he is quite entertaining -I can see why people get so attached to them. He spent most of the first day doing a train impersonation because he was so incensed that I had chosen to open the windows over letting him out. After that he spent a long time trying to eat my eye gel so I tried to give him some banana which he wasn't having a bar of and just kept trying to bite me. However he did redeem himself by wolf whistling at me when I was ready to go out...
I took the tube all the way over to Leightonstone which is a surprisingly
Favourite toy washing
It was bathtime for little snowman (or No-mam as Jessie calls him) long way away, particularly so when you have had a couple of gins and are absolutely busting to go to the bathroom. I arrived at the end station and practically sprinted up the street to Rebbecca's house only to be greeted by her housemate who was not really sure if there was a Rebbecca that lives here... maybe you could ring her mobile? Which I did and heard it ringing in the lounge of the house. So we had some drinks while watching the end of the league and then went to this curry restaurant with a pub hidden below it. Met some NZers, Australians, two cool English chickies and a MILLION South Africans. Apparently there is a large proportion of South Africans that live in Leightonstone. So after that we went to a house party (thrown by a flat of... you guessed it, South Africans) which was interesting. My cousins where a bit surprised because apparently house parties have a really bad rep here for drugs etc... I didn't notice this, although someone did offer me some little pink pills. But apart from that the most scandal was probably the strange Afrikaans boy who kept walking into the room
Errol and I
In the sitting room in Maida Vale. and exposing his rather spotty bottom to everyone. Rather strange, but apparently in Aussie that is quite normal according to my sister.
I have moved into the flat in Maida Vale... I might even go so far as to call it an apartment. It is very cute, I think I am most stoked about the Ponga in the back yard... I feel very at home. Strange locking everything though. I seriously have to lock every window and dead bolt the door even when I am at home because I am not used to being by myself. So I have a (somewhat mini) bathroom to myself. I was a little amused when I realised that when I stand in the shower my head is only just over a foot away from the ceiling... and I'm 5'3"! I celebrated by going to lush and buying some expensive shampoo, conditioner and body butter that you put on in the shower. It's fantastic.
Incidentally my skin has been fantastic here. My eczema has cleared up almost completely even on my hands. And I was quite stoked the other evening to discover that my moisturiser was actually SITTING on my skin... yes that
is correct! It normally is absorbed within about 5 mins!
I went out for lunch at a pub today with Kim and some of her friends. She is a chicky that I went to uni with and has been living here for about 6 months. It cracked me up as I looked along the table at the made in NZ, Hilly and Fat Freddy's drop tee shirts. Lunch was nice but I was not in an overly great state because I went straight from Leightonstone to there because I was running out of time. Though we did gain an hour because daylight savings changed today, good for me because I will be able to ring people without it being an absolutely indecent hour.
Oh yes, and no action on the job front. I may go in and sit and wait for possible temping assignments tomorrow morning... I am being picky but I really want a job in PR.
I still have heaps (heaps is apparently a word that NZers use 'heaps') of stuff that I really want to do. I went for a walk around one part of the National Gallery in Trafelga square. I found the
Errol
Climbing my leg women feeding the pidgeon's amusing. She started to feed them and all of the pidgeons from a mile radious decended on her, and there was hair and feathers everywhere, and poor children who where screaming as they got harrassed by these pigeons! Random tourists unsympathetically taking photos of the phenominum (sorry I didn't have my camera on me). So I had a look at some of the oldest art in the gallery which was really interesting becuase a lot of it I had studied in Art history at school. I was really surprised at the lack of barbed wire, alarms or glass cases. I was also surprised at how small a lot of them were! It's funny that we study these pictures in NZ and Londoners can just rock on into a free gallery and see it all! I will have to go and see some shows as well- so far the only show I have seen was performed by Jessie and Caitlin in their lounge- it was free but apparently I missed the better one that was later on because I was on the computer.
