Otres Beach
Along the coast from serendipity beach1 Hi everyone,
We headed south to a small quiet beach resort called Kep on Fri 8th Feb. It was a bumpy 4 hour bus journey. Once we arrived we met 2 French and 1 Canadian. We all decided to share a Tuk Tuk and find accommodation. We soon realised there was nowhere to stay due to the Chinese New Year........brilliant! Tuk Tuk drivers were trying to get us to go to Rabbit Island, just off the coast but there were no ATM's and we only had $50......again brilliant! So we decided to go to Kampot, 30 minutes west along the coast. The other 3 decided to stay at Rabbit Island but they had no money either so the Canadian decided to come to Kampot with us to get an ATM while his friends waited in Kep. He turned out to be a right dick (yet again another know it all) and we couldn't wait to get away from him. We got to Kampot and realised there was no ATM there either. We booked into a guest house which was grotty but by this time just wanted a bed. We stayed 1 night and moved onto Sihanoukville. We had asked the

Cambodia in the background, Vietnam in the foreground! owner of the guesthouse to book us on the bus the following day but when we got up in the morning she told us the bus was full, so for an extra $5 each we would have a taxi to ourselves and it would be quicker than the bus.....result we thought! This turned out to be a load of shit. We had to pick up a guy from Holland who was about 6"4 and then the taxi stopped at a taxi rank. The driver then proceeded to tell us that he needed another 2 people. This was a standard size car. With Mitch and Gill in the back and the big guy in the front this only left room to squeeze one more person in. When we protested this saying we had paid $20 and the Dutch guy had only paid $5 he then said we could have the back seat to ourselves and the other guy had to share the front seat with 1 person and the other would share the drivers seat........unbelievable!........Mitch was raging. We ended up sharing the back with the Dutch dude. A local woman sat in the passenger seat, the driver sat on the handbrake, the other passenger squeezed into the drivers seat. God knows how he managed to drive. We finally arrived in Sihanoukville and every place was full. Mitch went looking for accommodation and when he walked into Sea View Villas they had no rooms also. As he was leaving a friend of the owner who had come to visit said he could have her room and she would share with the owner. Think she fancied him as they had already turned away 50 people that day.......result! It was owned by 2 English couples so was very clean and had a lovely rooftop terrace for $15 a night. We were staying a Serendipity Beach which was a mess. Very busy and full of rubbish. It's not Thailand anyway. The following day we took a Tuk Tuk to Otres Beach further along the coast which was very nice and made the trip to the coast worth while. After 2 days here we were told we could not cross the border to Vietnam. It was for locals only and that we had to travel back to Phnom Penh........not happy! We decided to travel to Phnom Penh, stay overnight, then get the bus the following day to Vietnam. We booked our guesthouse to save us hunting about , but after a day of travelling got there and they had given our fecking room away, it was 6.30pm and dark. We had not eaten since breakfast, this was the last thing we needed, we were so pissed off! We jumped on a Tuk Tuk and he took as round for a bit and we eventually came across Fancy guesthouse, not that fancy but it would do for one night. We tried to book the bus to Saigon but every feckin bus was full.....nae doot! We ended up having to stay in Phnom Penh for 2 days which brought our time there to a grand total of 6 days.....Gill was not a fan! Two days later we jumped on the bus to Saigon......wooooohoooo!!!!!! It has taken so long to get round to writing our blogs that we are writing 2 at once! There are no pics at the moment as the camera is in the camera hospital getting de-sanded from the sand dunes in vietnam. It's buggered but hopefully repairable.
