We arrived in Laos yesterday and we really like it so far. Bangkok is OK but we have been there so many times that when we found out that we would have to wait another 2 days in Thailand for our Vietnam visa we decided to fly out to Laos and get the visa here. We are in Vientiane -- from the air it really looks like a small town with rivers and jungle around it -- and it is a small and peaceful town. The people are very nice and innocent and almost too polite to actually sell you anything -- you have to ask a lot of questions here. We arrived in the early evening and everything was full -- we didn't have a booking. We eventually found something quite nice in one of the bigger hotels. It has a swimming pool so Micha had a dip today after walking around most of the day. They have restaurants all along the Mekong and we have been sitting there in the evenings. It is really fun -- eating seafood, watching the sunset and drinking beer (Micha). Today we went to the market and visited a Wat (temple) and one museum

I told you not to take any photos of me!
-- we have to! Now that we have done our duty we may not visit anymore -- but who knows. The weather is perfect -- about 28 degrees during the day and 19 at night -- great for sitting outside. We got our Vietnam visas today and tomorrow we are going on to Vang Vieng -- I saw in the guide book that there are lovely bungalows down by the river and hope to celebrate Micha's birthday there (tomorrow). I am going to try and upload some photos but don't know how the connection is -- if it takes too long it will have to wait till we get back. I forgot the cable for my camera so I will upload some of Micha's.
