Hello,
It took 4 hours to get to Singapore for just 3 pound and the coach was pretty good. As we got closer to the city it started to chuck it down, so when we finally got dropped off we quickly dug out our shoes, umbrella and macs. The streets had rivers running down them and thunder and lightning had started, GREAT!! Next job was to find somewhere to stay, in the storm! We headed for an area that Rob had read up on, but the rain was getting ridiculous and we were slipping all over the place. So, i stood undercover with all the bags while Rob ran off to try and find somewhere to stay.
Everywhere was really expensive and after an hour Rob hadn't found anywhere and the storm was still going strong. It's funny because at home, if a storm like that happened, everyone would rush inside and lock themselves away, but over here we were looking for somewhere to stay along with everyone else who carried on going about their normal day. Rob went off again in a different direction and finally found somewhere for 10 pound each a night and it was really
Orchard road..
..not as impressive as we had hoped, but still good. decent considering it was the cheapest thing we had found. After drying off, most of the day had gone, so we found somewhere to eat and headed to bed absolutely shattered.
The next day we got ourselves aquainted with the city and what there was to do. We visited Orchard rd which is renowned for great shopping, however we weren't that impressed although there was several malls on one street, we have seen so many better places to shop since we have been away, that it takes alot to impress us now! So we settled to watching a Mr. Singapore competition in one of the malls with all these greased up hunky guys, great fun! Rob loved it! Also, from 11am until late evening everyday it rains which is obviously quite a pain. It's warm rain at least.
The following day we got up early to go to Singapore zoo, it took 30 minutes by MRT and then another 40 minutes by bus, but once we got there it was well worth it. In usual fashion it started to chuck it down so we had to look around the zoo in the rain which was quite funny. I
our 7/11 brolly!
it was an essential in singapore! was overwhelmed when we came face to face(well behind glass) to a 3 metre tall polar bear. It had a pool which you were level with so you coud see him swimming under water which was really amazing, it was huge and just fascinating to watch.Where else could you see a polar bear just a pane of glass away from you! We also watched him being fed a live fish in the water, he just squashed it with his paw against the glass, impressive!
We also got to see rare white tigers, which had bright blue eyes, they were gorgeous too. hmm what else was there, oh yeah, a komodo dragon, cheetah, leapord, biggest snake ever, manatees, orangatans..and all of them were literally next to you as its quite an open park, you could get much closer than at Paignton zoo! We were pretty wet and tired, but we also had bought a ticket for the night safari, which was a pretty cool idea we thought. First you go around in a tram to look at some of the animals in the dark and then you can go off and walk the trails yourselves. However,it didn't last long and
Raffles hotel..
..famous for being grand and expensive, but we didnt think it looked that good! you couldn't take pictures as flashes weren't allowed. It sounded better than it was we decided. After a very long and wet day, we were glad to see our bed.
Next day we were up again early to go to Sentosa island. It's connected to Singapore via a bridge of cable car. We got the MRT and then the sentosa bus which was the cheaper option. As the weather wasn't great it kind of ruined how sentosa would be on a sunny day, as it has beautiful beaches and outdoor activities all for free. But, we tried to make the most of it. We went to the aqarium that has an under water tunnal with sharks and other big fish, it is apparently the longest sea tunnel in Asia. We then got back on the bus(several drive round the island linking all the attraction, price included in your ticket) to get to the dolphin park. They put on a fantastic show, and best of all they were pink dolphins! You could get in the water and have your picture taken with them and as i have never done it before i went it! They felt really soft and i
Singapore zoo!!
..itching to get in! really wanted to swim with them but you had to book ahead and we were leaving the next day. It didn't rain but it was overcast all day, it was a real shame because we could have spent some time on the beaches.
Next day we were leaving, although we weren't leaving until late in the evening, so we spent time catching up on the blogs. When we came to leave, it was easy to get to the airport via MRT, so we got there in good time, ready for our flight to Bali for a week of chilaxing! Singapoe was nice but we were really disappointed with the weather. After such a hectic, strange and fun time in Asia, it was nice to come to somewhere that everyone spoke English! The roads were roads and everything clean.
Untill next time .... party on!
