Day 14 - to Organ Pipe Cactus NM

We drove west on Highway 86. Most of the drive was through the Tohono O'odham tribal lands. Lots of saguaro, cholla, ocotillo and prickly pear along both sides of the highway.
We turned south at Why, AZ to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. We saw a lot more saguaro and cholla than organ pipe cactus. We found out at the visitor center that the organ pipe cactus is plentiful in Mexico, but quite rare in the USA. Most of the organ pipe cactus found in the US is in the park. It was a beautiful drive down Highway 85 with mountains visible out both sides. It must have rained in the past week, because the ocotillo had leaves, which they only have for a short time after a rain. There were desert poppies blooming, too.

Never knew there were so many different varities of cacti. And I love poppies. I can't seem to grow any here no matter how hard I try. Maybe I'll move west!!!!
