Melaka chinatown..
..getting ready for chinese new year, this is where we were staying. Hello,
We got to malaka in good time where we were dropped at the main bus station. We got a local bus to the town centre and found a room at a guesthouse called Baba. Malaka had alot of western style buildings as it was run by the British and Dutch at various points. The town itself is tiny, so everything is well within walking distance. The following day we covered most of the things to see by walking although there really isn't much to see here. Its a relatively quiet place with a few small museums, a couple of churches and thats about all the sightseeing there is! There are also a couple of malls around, which we had a look around. The malls were much smaller than the ones in KL but these offered fantastic hawker (food) centres at really cheap prices. Our place was right next to chinatown and we ate there a couple of times too as the food was really good!
The chinese new year starts very soon, on the 7th Feb, so everywhere seems to be preparing for it, by decorating the town, all ready for the 2 week celebration! They celebrate full
lanterns were hung everywhere..
..this is their main source of decoration, looked pretty cool though, beats tinsel! moon to the next full moon which is an excellent idea! We also visited the maritime museum, which is built like an actual Portuguese ship and the museum is on the ship! Melaka is probably the most historic city within Malaysia and although small, it is worth going there just for the history!
Everyday we were there is seemed to start raining at about 6pm onwards, and it really did rain alot when it started, so our macs had to come out! Although its the first time weve really had to use them so we had a good run with the weather! On one of the evenings we were going to watch a sound and light sound which was on nightly, but because the weather was so bad they didn't show it, which was really dissapointing, but we went into the mall and had a nice starbuckes whilst watching the rain come down! Tea always seem to taste better when were away!!
So that just sums up Malaka really! The day we were leaving we caught the local bus to the main bus station and then got on one of the hourly bus services to Singapore. So that
the trishaw guys..
..some were banging out slow music, others dance and some even drum and bass, pretty funny. was the end of Malaysia, we were there for 2 weeks, and time flew again. We both thought that if we came back we would like to do the other side, and go to some of the islands as they sound really beautiful!
Party on dudes
