We picked up Sigrid and Melissa in Nassua and got off that stinky rock and had a quick cruise to Allans Cay. The great attraction of Allans Cay is the iguana population. They hear your motor as you pull up to the island and come out of everywhere and they are looking for food. we brought with us a few bruised apples and some excited attitudes. We got a chance to feed the iguanas and got our first taste of the Exumas. The iguanas where placed on these three islands to be studied on how they can survive with out predators but there are tourist boats that come over every day to feed them so when you pull up in your dingy they come running like you have rung the dinner bell.
After Allans Cay we made it over to Normans Cay. Normans Cay was one of the biggest drug running islands in the islands for a long time. It actually has the biggest airstrip in the bahamas still. The drug runners where finally run out and there are remains of what used to be a huge operation, houses, shacks and a runway full of pot holes. Out of the rubble
as emerged a resturant named McDuffs, which is number 3 on Jimmy Buffet's Cheeseburger in Paradise list, and you can enjoy lunch or dinner or just a cold beer with Seth. Our dingy finally reached shore after dark and we walked down the beach looking for the path to McDuffs and doubts began to fill the heads of the crew that the Capt didn't know what he was talking about. I led them through a path between two shacks and the lights of the bar invited us in. We enjoyed fish and chicken and a cold beer or two. On the dingy ride back we where caught in a tiny rain shower but made back safely with damp clothes and full bellies. The next morning we got up and anchored out by the plane wreck and finally got wet. We snorkelled the plane wreck and got to see plenty of fish in the clear bahamas water.
After drying off we took another short trip to Wardrick Wells, the heart of the Exuma Land and Sea Park. The water is beautiful in the Exumas and the park is a prefect place to experience it. We spent the afternoon walking around and
swimming all by ourselves. we found some friendly locals, a curly tail and some sugar birds. After an afternoon of beauty we cut loose from the mooring and made our way to Staniel Cay where we would snorkel in a cave, feed swimming pigs and pet sharks. That is to come.
