Ko phangan - had yao
not such a nice day though. sa wat dee
Oh my God!!!! The ferry over was awful, as there was still abit of a storm, the currents in the water were realy strong and the wind was making the waves huge! The little ferry got thrown about all over the place, even getting air off the waves at times. It felt like you were in a washing machine. The ferry people were handing out sick bags to everyone, left, right and centre, it wasn't nice. After one and a half hours we arrived at Thong sala pier in Ko pha ngan and got a taxi to an area called Had Yao.
Driving up the coast of the island to it, it was clear there wasn't really alot there and when we finally got to Had Yao (expecting it to be a little town) we were disappointed as there was quite literally nothing there! We walked up and down this road where all this accommodation was supposed to be, but it was all down on the beach in the form of little huts. And on inspection of the huts we werent that impressed - don't get us wrong it's not that we don't want to stay
the other end of the beach
we are to the right of this pic. in a hut and experience 'backpacking', but they were grose and actually really expensive!
We finally checked into a little hut at a resort called 'Longbay'. It was 1200 baht a night including breakfast. It was so standard though and not all that clean. One of our windows hung open and couldn't be shut, so mosquitoes could get in to bite us and our mossi net wasn't big enough for the bed, so it kept lifting up to expose good flesh for biting! Great! To add to this the weather wasn't great as the storm was till around, very cloudy and raining every now and again. However, we were right next to the beach, so we got our ball and went to play some volleyball and explore the beach.
Had yao beach is pretty big and as you go further along there are bbqs on the beach in the evening. So that evening thats what we did, we had red snapper, barracuda, mussels and king prawns all fresh on the bbq. Also in the place we ate, there was a little puppy that the owner had just got, so i was taken with that for a little while,
feet in the sand!
its nice to always have this option! in fact rob felt a bit left out in the end! Haha, but it was so cute, just like a teddy bear.
Next day, after a pretty good buffet breakfast, we decided as it was so overcast, to explore the island a little. So...(mums and dads don't be annoyed!) we got a scooter for the day for just 200 baht. It was a 125cc bike, so powerful up and around the hills, which at times are quite steep, as we had heard that's where some people get into trouble because the bike just can't hack it! We went really slow though so we were safe, I drove and Rob sat on the back, as Han had ridden one before. It was a really good way to see the island, we stopped at little deserted beaches, that really looked like paradise. We drove to Haad Rin beach and saw where the full moon parties are held on the beach, we also had a lunch break here.
That night, i'm not sure if i got too much sun or ate something dodgy, but i was really ill. I felt so rough and we were leaving the next day to go
the whole beach..
..from one end to another. to Krabi, which meant travelling for 8 hours. I was really hoping by morning i would be ok. Luckily i woke up ok, with just a bit of a funny tummy, so Rob and I left Ko Pha Ngan for Krabi.
So untill next time..Party on dudes.
Han and Rob
