Lets just say, its been an interesting year, thus far... So we were certainly supposed to be in Delhi by this point, in fact, likely to've already been traveling on to Varanasi and the wild temples that flank the frigid waters of the mother Ganges... but yet a speedbump has slowed us down a bit~
the day before we were to leave, I returned from a X'mas break in Tucson to a distress call from Alexis, doubled over in excruciating pain asking for help. We flew to the emergency room... to sit in the waiting room for 2 hours while Lex sh*t and puked her brains out. Later that day, finally admitted and sedated, she was to wait another 6 or 7 hours before they could give her a CAT scan. It turns out that what had been assumed to be a simple kidney infection was actually a congenital defect ("congenital UPJ") that had swollen her kidney to about the size of a football! She had emergency surgery (the next day) to implant a stent that would drain the kidney and over the next few hours she lightened by 4 or 5 lbs!!
Since her release from the hospital a few days ago I have been helping her to recuperate ~ Upon her return in March, the next major stage of her recovery will be a high-tech reconstructive laproscopic surgery performed by a robot! She seems to be feeling a lot better, and the doctor has been very clear that she is perfectly suited for this travel and healthily raring to go; so now, barring any other organ catastrophes, India here we come!
but man, what a start...
