The floating market!
how many hats do you want??? Sa wat dee,
We got back to Bangkok, having met an English couple on the bus, we checked back into the same hotel as the last time we were in Bangkok. After checking in we headed back out with them to the MBK mall to watch a film. We watched the new Will Smith film - I am legend, which was quite good. At the beginning during the trailors, we were all happilly chatting away when everyone around stood up! We looked at the screen and the king has his own little minifilm playing and its seen as disrespectful to not stand during it. They love there king out here with memorials all over the place with his face on. We found this really funny!
The next day we were up at 6am, ready for our trip to the bridge over the river kwai. First, after getting picked up we stopped at the floating market, which was a bustle of colour, noises and smells. Thai people crammed in their longboats with fruit and veg for sale. Very James Bond! Next we headed for the bridge which actually took quite a while to get to. It was fantastic to see
View from the bridge
there was a traffic jam of paddle boats! but much smaller than we had both expected. We walked across it, realising how dangerous it was - there is a small walkway in the centre but then its open to a massive drop down to the river each side. We got a little bit of the wobbly legs syndrome when people were coming towards you and you had to step out onto the ledge for them to get past. While we were at the bridge we went into the jeath war museum which was quite rubbish, we wished we hadn't bothered and as the tour was being abit rushed, we only had 10 mins to look around it.
After, we drove another 45 mins to the tiger temple. Here we came face to face with an animal that could rip your head off in about 5 secs, oh and we put there heads in our laps for a photograph, WHICH, we paid extra for. But it was incredible, really amazing and the staff were very stricked with everyone, only allowing you to walk around the tigers and have photos once you had queued and you were taken by them holding your hand (In some cases quite roughly dragged
On the bridge
Away from the bustle! around) to the tigers. We figured this was because it only takes one wrong move for it to turn very nasty. We got to interact with tiger cubs too which was good fun, but even they could be really dangerous, however, han did get the chance to lie on ones belly because it was dozing. The temple was more like an animal park with hundreds of wild boar, water buffalo, oxon, horses and whatever else just wandering around freely. At times they would just stampeed and you had to get out of the way very quickly. But really weird! The tour was fantastic, the highlight being the tigers for definate.
After a long day we were shattered and wanted to rest up for the long day of shopping at the MBK shopping mall the next day. The MBK mall has 7 floors, each bigger than cribs causeway! It was huge but we got so many bargains, rock and republic jeans, evisu jeans, D&G bags, diesel t-shirts, all for next to nothing, it was great! Unfortunately the day had come to an end as we had to catch the overnight bus at 7.30pm to Ko Tao for new years.
