soo-a s'day

It took only 5 hours to reach Siem Reap from Phnom Pehn, then as soon as we got there we headed straight to the hotel that the hotel in Phnom Pehn had recommended. It was ideal, so we booked ourselves up for 3 nights. The next day we hired a guy and his tuk-tuk to take us to the Angkor ruins. Firstly we went to Angkor Wat and then Angkor Thom as they are quite close together and the most famous of the Angkor temples. The first sight of them was immense and could see why they are 1 of the 7 wonders of the world. Han felt like Lara croft from tomb raider when walking around. In fact we think that some of the film was shot here.

The temples really took your breathe away. We managed to fit most of the temples in, in one day, as we only had 2 days to see the lot. Two of the temples called Ta Phrom and Preah Khan are still pretty much engulfed by the jungle, so to see them in that state was pretty coolio. Tree routes had grown through some of the temples, destroying them that little bit more, (Mostly destroyed in the reign of the Khmer rouge) which is a shame, but in some ways is good as they all are amazing sites. But it was really cool searching through the jungle looking at the temples.

One thing we did notice when going round the temples was the noise, it sounding like a car alarm going off, constantly, which was coming from the trees. It was deafening at times, so we asking our driver what it was and he said it was our equivalent to bees. Apparently there are loads of them which live in the trees. Very strange!

For sunset we went to Phnom Bakheng, as it is the highest point in the Angkor ruins. To get to the top we decided to take an elephant (Which was a first for us both), as it was quite a walk up and it seemed quite novel! We tried to get someone to take a pic of us but they obviously didn't know how to press the button, as the pic didn't come out! It was so much fun though. Reaching the top we realised why it was the best place to see

the walkway through to the grounds to get to angkor wat, even this is impressive!
the sunset, we had a view over the whole jungle! We sat for about an hour just watching the sun go down, it was beautiful, the pictures really don't justify how good it was. I forgot to mention that once we got off the elephant, we had to get to the top of the temple which involved climbing up steps so steep you had to use your hands! The steps themselves were probably only about 5 inches wide. On the way down, hundreds who had come up to watch the sunset, were trying to crawl back down the steps carefully-it is funny to watch looking back on it. It was quite scary and yep, Han fell abit and cut her toe, but theres no surprise in that is there?! At the end we were glad to get back to the hotel, it had been such a long day, but so worth it, a day we will both remember, forever!!

The next day we got up to the last group of temples called the 'Roulous group'. We had the same driver who toke us the day before. To be honest we needn't have bothered, we had done all the best

temples the previous day. But it filled a morning and another thing to say we have done! That afternoon we caught up on blogs and got ready to leave for Vientiane in Laos. After completing that we thought we would treat ourselves to a massage and it was lush. After some food that night we had an early night for our early start to Laos.

So until next time, you know what comes next
