Muhammad Yunus office is large, well organized and appealing - but certainly does not have as nice chairs, desk, etc. as the office that most of us have. His office wall has six large photos - four of which are of him with the Clintons who have been strong supporters of microcredit since Bill Clinton was Governor and got Yunus to oversee and implementation of microcredit in Arkansas.

Yunus's total compensation is $450 per month and includes salary, health care, etc. His transportation is paid by the company. Since receiving the Nobel Peace Prize he has had to have security - imposed by the Nobel Prize organization - which does not thrill him.

He donated the $100,000 he won for the Nobel Peace Prize to the Grameen Social Entreprenuer program which focuses on creating businesses that do good in which investors recover their investment when break even is achieved - but without interest, dividends or profits to anyone - all money is plowed back into the business to create jobs and do good. This will be the focus of Grameen America which is just in the process of being launched. I am quite interested in this aspect of Grameen and will be exploring how I might get involved - including with the Grameen America program.

Yunus lives in a complex on the Grameen compound - which houses five of the top managers of Grameen and their families. His wife is head of the Physics department in one of the Universities. He makes very little more than many of his direct reports,

Tomorrow we visit a rural microcredit operation and the Grameen Solar energy program.

Yunus salary
marty, that is really amazing - professor Yunus earns $450 a month. What does a dollar buy in bangladesh? That man really deserved the nobel prize! You are so lucky to have shook hands with Yunus. I admire him for what he has done in the lives of those in real need.
