I'm trying to get photos on here, I have a TON, but it seems like anywhere I go it gets 99% done and then .........

nothing.

So, be prepared for a back log of photo fun.

Today has been really good. Alex and I went to the sky tower and did this freaky over looking the city thing. You go up 88 floors and then into a glass box that moves out over the city, you can see above, below, and all around you.

We've walked all over town. Alex wants a picture of a building/business called "The Hill of Content" because he thinks it's funny. We're going to look it up in the phone book and find it tomorrow...I hope it's as funny to you as it is to him - my feet - not so entertained. Aha...

Speaking of feet, if you're in the market for sandals - go with Crocs. They are fabulous. I've worn these all day, everyday, with the exception of yesterday due to the weather (it's a lot cooler in Melbourne) and aside from my feet needing a break right now, they've been more comfortable then my sneakers. No blisters either.

I've learned that if you want to speak Australian, it's a matter of shortening words. Melbourne is pronounced "Melbin"...Cairns? - "Cans"....Good-Day? - "Goodeye"....

If you make it here go to Toto's Pizza House on Lygon Street. Not only is the food incredible, David Grohl (sp) works there. One of the waiters, nicest guy, looks just like the guy from Foo Fighters, but with shorter hair - same teeth too. And did I mention the food is incredible?

We rent a car tomorrow for the ocean road drive. I will be driving on the opposite side of the road - on the right side of the car. It's going to be a mental challenge to not coast over to the right side of the road. Some of the turns here, if you want to turn right, you pull over to the left side of the street, wait until the light turns yellow, and when the traffic clears - you proceed with your right turn.

In our search for the Hill of Content (which I've renamed the hill of discontent), we stopped for Alex to get a beer so we could use their restroom at Young and Jackson. It's a hotel/bar that was started by two guys - Young and Jackson - who came here for the gold rush and found that they made more money selling alcohol to minors. Nice, eh? Smart guys.

We also checked out the Federation Square....it's this art hub with music, art, food...it's really cool. They had bands playing all day to raise money for the Salvation Army. The buildings are made out of metal, glass, and cement...I have pictures of that too. I guess they went five times over budget to make this place and I can see why. It was a wild idea and I wouldn't want to know what just a single slab of metal, glass, OR cement cost them.

I bought a cd of one of the bands - it's a girl on vocals and keyboard and her bass playing older brother and drum playing little brother. They were great. I can't remember the band name - cd is up in our hotel room. I could have talked to the kid selling the merchandise all night. He was really cool and into their cause. He just moved here from Sydney and I asked if that was like being a trader because Melbourne and Sydney are forever claiming the better city. He said he thinks it's more bridging the gap and that you'll find anywhere you go here - Perth, Adalaide, wherever - everyone feels they have the best place to call home. I told him I wish our city was more like that - our biggest enemies are ourselves and that most kids our age can't wait to escape...he couldn't even comprehend living in a place that didn't have pride in where they come from. Hey - I like it - that's a start, right? As I sit here wearing my Jackson Cruise Night t-shirt.

Pride:
Go Jackson! Acutally, some people think that Jackson is the best place to call home. Le's convince the young.
