27th february 2004 As somebody was snoring all night long, my sleep wasn´t as peaceful as I would have desired, but it was not that bad anyway.
I took a train upwards in the lake to the city of Lausanne, famous for housing the International Olympic Comettee. Although i´m not into sports, Lausanne is a very good city for walking uphill and downhill all the time, as it lies on several hills. On a top of a hill you can find the cathedral, which is claimed to be the finest in Switzerland. I cannot support that, because I don´t remember the inside: the time has erased my memory.
I found anyway Lausanne to be a more picturesque city than Geneva, the nice and sunny weather affecting of course this perception. Once I walked up and down several times i

Antigua residencia de obispos y ahora oficinas gubernamentales went to Ouchy, the neighborhood in Lausanne facing Lake Leman, being its most appealing attraction the Olympic Museum, that I didn´t visit. Actually I went to Ouchy to sit a little bit next to the lake. I also found the lake nicer here than in Geneva, because of the more mountanious scenery.
My next destination, in the afternoon, is Montreux, a major town-resort in the Swiss Riviera. The beauty and relatively mild climate of this last stretch of lake Leman (you can even see some palm trees) have acted as a magnet for the rich and famous since the XIXth century; namely, Lord Byron, Percy and Mary Shelley, Dostoyevski, Henry James, Charles Chaplin, Nabokov or Ernest Hemingway.
The trip from Lausanne to Montreux is very nice too, between the lake and the Lavaux wine terraces. It is the end of the winter now, so only naked branches can be seen, but imagine in october, with all the colours!!!
The main reason I came to Montreux is visiting the Château de Chillon, one of the most famous monuments in Switzerland. It is a medieval XIIIth century castle, with its walls and towers and chambers… just off the shore of

It´s quite entertaining to explore it: visiting the dungeons or walking the walls and the courtyards. It is a little far from the city center, but the 40 minutes walk is worth it, always along the lake with stunning views of the sorrounding Swiss and French mountains.
When i was walking back to the town center I was stopped by a couple of merry women. After asking me some questions they gave me a colourful booklet for me to read. Following the instructions of the booklet my soul could be saved from the neverending flames of hell. It was very nice of them, but i was ungrateful and didn´t read it.
Afterwards i went to a supermaket to get some supplies, namely, camembert cheese, bread and chocolate. It was the cheapest stuff i found. In the following days in Switzerland basically i´ll live on these products. (You´d better not go to restaurants if you are on a tight budget) As i´m sleeping in cheap hotels and moving around with an interrail ticket, this expensive country is turning to be not so expensive after all😊
Then I took a train to Vevey, the other major town in

Cabecera de la catedral the Swiss Riviera, with a quaint small city center. Charles Chaplin lived 25 years here. He died and is buried in Vevey.
The lake views were similiar to those in Montreux, and the sunset was glorious.
Back in Geneva I had some talk with the argelian and tunisians in the tv-billiard-common room of the hostel (It seems that they had recently arrived in Geneva and were loking for a job ) and went to bed.
