the wrong side of the tracks!
Greetings from Peru!!

Well we arrived safely all be it very late and very tired!!

So on first impression and from talking to our transfer driver downtown Lima is not the safest of places at night...nothing like an easy in eh! Turns out it wasnt too bad after all, that said though we didnt really venture out at night as there´s nowhere to go...everywhere seems to shut early!

You really have to hit the ground running here though as nobody speaks a word of English.....this made for fun when me and c-mac strolled into a pokey local diner and did our best to order off the menu. But you live and you learn. I now know that champinon is mushroom and C-mac knows that pescada is fish! (needless to say we swapped!)

We spent a couple of days chilling downtown (probably not the best choice of words its a very hectic place) and taking in the local art museums and plazas (parks).
This morning we strapped our rucksacks on and though we could have taken a cab for 6 soles (a quid) to Miraflores in the south of Peru, that´s not the spirit of adventure! We decided

Amigo´s in San Martin Square!
to tackle the local buses...now this isnt too easy as there are lots of different companies, no bus stops and therefore its difficult to get the right bus! Basically a fella hangs out the door screaming destinations and you run and jump on, and believe me they dont even wait till you´re on before pulling away! (i´ll try and put a piccy up)

Now obviously you dont know when you´ve reached your destination either as the signs aren´t upto much so i turn to the ticket dude and say "puede decirme cuando llegamos en parque kennedy en miraflores por favor" (can you tell me when we arrive in park kennedy, miraflores please) check me out...and i didnt even look in the phrasebook!

Miraflores is much more chilled out and touristy, its on the coast and there is a real relaxed vibe here. Perfect for Spanish school on Monday!

OK so me and C-mac are on a budget and we had in our minds that we didnt want to spend too much on a hostel for the night as we start our homestay tomorrow. We were very happy then to have found a small chinese run hostel charging just

30 soles (5 quid) for tonights room!

The bad news...only 1 double bed in the room and I use the term room very loosely...I´ve sat in larger toilets...Im thinking a night out on the beers tonight! (cant share a bed with a man sober...christ we havnt even got to brazil yet!!!!)

Coming up next...back to school! Where did i put my satchel?
