It's the weekend and time for a roadtrip with Bryan and Cheryl! We chose the French area of Switzerland, specifically Montreux at the East end of Lac Lemac (Geneva sits at the West end of the lake).
Along the way we stopped in Fribourg for some lunch. After searching for quite a while for the best place to eat, we settled on a pizza/pasta restaurant. Afterwards, we spotted a nice little bakery for dessert with lovely pastries and hot chocolate, bien sur! We love that in Europe you can take your dog anywhere. We were tickled to meet a little dog at the table next door with the oh-so-perfect name of Chanel!
We decided to check out the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, first built in 1283, after lunch. You can pay to visit the top of the tower, 365 steps above the main floor of the church. Even with legs of jello afterwards, it was decided that the view was well worth the climb (check out the photos). Unlike most church towers, the steps ended on the roof, so the top was open to the sky. We debated about whether this place had more steps than the tower of
Notre Dame de Paris but an internet search puts Notre Dame just above St. Nicholas at an impressive 387 (
First Day in Paris). For a church with an elevator to the top, check out the Duomo in Milan (
Dressed to the Nines).

speaking of scaffolding!
I had the same experience with scaffolding the two times I've been to Notre Dame. It was removed right after I left last time. Sigh.
