CanĀ“t think why now!
Hello friends, Today we're tearing ourselves away from Puerto Escondido, a bit later than originally planned! We've had a lovely and relaxing few days hanging out on various perfect beaches and - well, not a lot else really! A bit of walking and exploring the local area, and having decided trying to learn to surf in waves that massive was probably suicidal, we opted for the safer option of boogie boarding, which was wicked. It seems the wave is called the Mexican Pipeline because it actually forms a massive tube as it breaks. Its amazing watching the surfers ride all the way through the tube as it breaks and pop out still standing at the other end - unbelievably impressive. We've also managed to track down some fantastically good caipirinhas, and played some very bad chess (the last time i played was age approx 13 so i'm getting thrashed!) We also considered getting a new travelling companion in the form of a tiny tiny ginger and white kitten miaowing outside a shop, but our hotel doesn't take pets so sadly it wouldn't have been practical. Next time we went by it had disappeared so hopefully reunited with its mum!So with a bit of regret, but relief for our bruised behinds, we've decided not to go via Oaxaca City as originally planned, despite many recommendations. Apparently the road is so rough that most people vomit at some point! and by going straight to what was to have been our next destination, we miss out about 8 hours of travelling. So we're catching a nightbus this evening to San Cristobal de las Casas, a colonial town way up in the mountains.Fingers crossed for us that the loo is nicer on this one...Lots of loveNat xxx

thanks for the heads up
I'm going to be spending a month in PE this spring, and was wondering if I should drive to Oaxaca to check out el capital... but I can't rationalize doing it given the conditions. I'd rather just drive to guatemala!
