Being in India heightens your senses like no other place on Earth. The wall of heat that hits you as soon as you walk out of the Mumbai airport is like walking into a sauna. If you think you’ve been in humid places before, think again. The smells, the sounds, the sights in the first hours on the streets of Mumbai bring back memories of every other trip I’ve made to India. Everything seems familiar but is somehow different. The chatter of my cousins in the car reminds me of what I missed growing up on a different continent.
It’s been a year since I last saw them, but the months fade away and it seems like just yesterday. It always strikes me how great friendships are like that - even if you have no contact for months or years, you know exactly how their eyes crinkle when they smile, which hand gestures they will use, what their skin smells like when they pull you close for a hug. I instantly feel loved when I’m in India. My family, like all families, has its ups and downs but one thing is unmistakable - they'll be there to pick me up
from the airport at 3 a.m., they will give me the gossip on everyone I've ever met, they'll be there for me when my world gets turned upside down.
My favorite part of being in India is the food (ok - one of my favorite parts). For the first week, I had a list of foods to eat (I'm starting to sound like my Dad). As you can see from the pictures, there has been no shortage of food. I even made tacos one night with homemade salsa. The past 2 weeks I've just been hanging out with family but I will have more interesting things to post in a few weeks when I start traveling again 😊
