Gary on the beach
Here we can see Gary on the beautiful beachWe left Edmonton on Aug 21 and headed out to Montreal and attended Debbie's wedding. Then we stayed in Toronto.
Our original plan is to stay in Toronto for a few days, then head out to Florida, USA to visit the Everglades National Park.
However, because of Hurricane Katrina (the one that hit New Orleans real hard) which raised gasoline prices as well as created a possible gasoline scare, we decided to look elsewhere.
A look on the web gave us an option to visit the Punta Cana, in the southeast part of the Dominican Republic for a very good price (Cdn$350 + $250 tax including flight, hotel, all meals and drinks). (Another tourist found the same package cheaper by $50 on "Sell Off Vacations")
We spent 7 nights in the beautiful 3 star all-inclusive resort of IFA Villa Bavaro and gained 5 pounds each.
The beach in Punta Cana is one of the nicest that I have been to.
We took a day and ventured out on our own to the towns of Hiquey and then onto La Romana. The public buses are quite efficient, but I think they are expensive according to local

We can see the beautiful clear water standards. We spent US$10 each on bus fares, and each way took about 3 hours total on 3 different buses.
We found the Dominicans very friendly, and they all look very healthy. Perhaps the people we meet and the people who rode the buses all work at the area hotels and they are paid pretty well comparatively.
After Dominican Republic, we stayed in Toronto for a few more days.

Now that I read the whole story and saw th picture( you began your journey with a beach holiday) I understand ,why you were not interested in Ngapali beach. Good luck a regards .Roswitha
