Yesterday, Tuesday the 9th, the money was wire transferred and the paperwork was finished. I'm not exactly the owner of three lots. What I am is the major (only) shareholder of three different corporations which each own one lot. And I am the president of each corporation. Everything is bought in Costa Rica through corporations. The lawyer did the title searches to make sure the property had no liens or other problems. Then we met at 5 p.m. for the developer (another American) to sign over his shares to me. But, in actuality, most of the transactions were done before we arrived at his office. There are six notebooks for each corporation. But only two require entries for passive corporations such as land ownership. The Spanish handwritten entries in the notebooks indicate (I think) that at about 4 p.m., the entire ten shares of each corporation were transferred to me. Then, at 4:20 p.m, apparently the shareholders (me) convened to vote for a new president. Guess who was elected? Me. And the shareholders (me, again) gave exclusive power to El Presidente to buy, sell, and whatever. This is important because there are actually three other named board of directors, two of whom I actually met.

I should have taken pictures of the transaction in the small office in San Ramon, about 20 minutes from the lots, but I didn't want to cause concern to the abogado (lawyer). So I left the office and drove back to Atenas at night, in the rain, with my cache of 18 notebooks. By the way, I talked it over with Jurgen, and we agreed that I would keep the lot I bought for him. A few days earlier, I paid Victor, the security guard and general manager of the subdivision, to cut down all the vegetation. And when I went back and looked at it, I thought it may actually be the best of my three lots for my own house some day. So Jurgen and I reached an amicable agreement.

And I would like to add that on the day of the wire transfer, the computers at Jose's San Ramon office were acting up. But I used the telephone via the inexpensive Skype network (which I now have installed on my computer) and called the American Airlines Credit Union, and they were extremely helpful (as they always are) in making it happen.

Burruscos??
So what's a burrusco? Can you recommend a place for a family of 4 (two teens) and 2 grandparents to stay, not terribly far from the airport (the grandparents arrive at 11:30 P.M.)? We don't want to spend a lot of money, but wanted something a bit out of Alajuela for our first night.
