I saw an old friend from school today! We went to the same elementary, middle, and high schools together. Couldn't follow her to college though; she went on to Stanford. 😊 J is currently living in Tokyo with her husband for the next few months. Sounds like such an adventure!

I met her at the Westin and we went to Shanghai Uncle for lunch. Shanghai Uncle gets pretty good reviews. It has better Shanghainese food than other places, but it's not what it's hyped to be. After lunch we walked Nanjing Lu and sat and had iced tea and shaved ice at Chamate. We walked through Raffle City and we went to Lillian's Bakery. J said, "This is the best egg tart I've ever eaten!" haha. That's a big statement! What a nice way to spend an afternoon and catch up with an old friend. It's so fun to just chat, eat, and chat. 😊 I've seen J twice in nine years! How funny that it takes her being in Tokyo and my being in Shanghai to be able to get together! 😊

J got in touch with me on Facebook. She saw that I was in Shanghai and let me know that she was going to be in town. Yay for Facebook! I am so glad we got to connect, and I'm looking forward to having her back in the Bay Area in a few months.

I got an email from a friend/former colleague yesterday. She said she's giving her resignation and coming to travel with me next month! Yay! Looking forward to having a travel buddy and being able to have quality hang-out time. 😊

Off to visiting the Silk Road and Xinjiang Province tomorrow! 😊 Urumqi is the furthest place in the world from an ocean. Turpan (150m below sea level) is the lowest place in the earth (after the Dead Sea). Visiting a lake near Kashgar right at the China/Tajikistan border.
