Where on Earth are Steve and Trung??

Mission Beach, Queensland, Australia

We've made it to Oz!! "G'day, how a' ya??" , "throw another shrimp on the barby..." , " ... mate!", "SteveO!"

In Cairns, we finally hit the proverbial travel-wall. We booked into a hostel on the main drag and basically did nothing but enjoy the city's nightlife for the next three evenings and took things easy during the day instead of charging around trying to see and do things.

Following the third day of refusing to engage in any tourist activities, we reattained our enthusiasm and picked up our hire car to drive North to Daintree and Cape Tribulation. I applaud Yataro Iwasaki, founder of Mitsubishi. We picked up one of his 380 SX models and the Dodge Avenger we had in America is being trounced across all motoring measurements. This car is not a 'beast' - she's something else... some kind of... Monster. So it's with pleasure we have this for the next three weeks to take us down Australia's East Coast from Cairns to Sydney.

We began with a day trip out of Cairn's to see the rainforests around Daintree and the beaches around Cape Tribulation, both of which turned out to be pretty awesome places
to visit. Apparently, Australia is home to 9 of the World's 10 most poisonous snakes and then there's the spiders, so walking about the rainforest felt a bit of a stressful experience rather than one I calmly enjoyed.

The next day, we embarked upon our second major road trip following on from the Trans-Am escapade and put our foot down on the monster to head to Mission Beach. It was extremely chilled there and the hostel was the most relaxed place we've crashed out in since we left - all very laid back, 'no worries' sort of atmosphere. It was a shame we couldnt stay there longer as we took it for a bit of a sanctuary after the craziness of Cairn's and expected further craziness ahead in Brisbane; however, we were keen to get well into the long drive ahead and leave some decent miles of tarmac behind us.

So that we did and it wasnt long before we got a proper appreciation of how long a drive the East coast of Australia is. It's far - about 3,000 km. After Mission Beach, we put the foot down and arrived in a sleepy town called Marlborough in

the middle of nowhere. The next day, we pushed further on down the coast with a target to reach beautiful Fraser Island : )

Public pools
That public pool looks just like that public paddling pool in Cambusbarron... Maybe. Great blogging mate - I hope you're going to collect all these and reprint them in a nice leather bound book - Gini Travel Tales Volume 1. :D
