Well having been up for a good 40+ hours I finally arrived in Guatemala City, a joyous place to behold boasting lots of traffic and drivers with a deathwish / a habit of overtaking on blind bends. Thankfully an easy shuttle bus trasfer took me door to door in Antigua nicely in time to meet up with the rest of the group and a nice comfy bed. Yesterday we kicked it off in style by moving on from Antigua (fuelled by delicious breakfast bagels!) to see some sandstone (unusual - they´re mostly limestone fyi kiddies) Mayan ruins in the middle of a banana plantation. Thirst was nicely quenched with some fresh coconut juice then we hit the road again for a good few hours to our lodging for the night at Rio Dulce. We had fantastic cabins directly on the waterfront overlooking an hour´s worth of fantastic sheet lightning. And we got to enjoy happy hour in the pool with rum and cokes and Margheritas until late! We carried on the watery theme by enjoying a half day boat trip up the river to Livingstone, wot be in da Carribbean mon. Following on from a rather nice fish lunch on the riverbank we then headed back for the 5 hour drive to Flores, from where I´m currently typing this. Flores is an island town in a lake whose name I forget, and is our base for the evening before we head off at silly-o-clock tomorrow to head to Tikal, one of the big daddies of the Mayan empire ruined cities. Gotta go now as it´s nearly time to eat and los internet appears to be powered by an aged gerbil with narcolepsy.

Observations so far - people here are awesome, everyone in the group very friendly, humidity is not big or clever, Margheritas rule....
