After an earlier rise today (well, as late as Emma would let me lie in), we made our way down to the pool. Our previous swimming attempt had been cruelly thwarted the previous day due to an apparant "thunderstorm". It's not as if we weren't going to the pool to get wet anyway?!?

After a nice bakery lunch, we were picked up by Jack; a friend of Bobby's who we had briefly met in Orkney. He very kindly took us out in his car for the afternoon to the China side of Hong Kong; a part that would have been inaccessible otherwise. We witnessed the Chinese border, although part of me was disappointed there wasn't a huge number of armed guards at the crossing. Nevertheless, we continued on and had a look at a Taoist temple and some of the more "real" housing in Hong Kong. It was interesting to actually see parts that tourists wouldn't normally see, although there is a surprising lack of tourists within Hong Kong.

We headed back and stopped in a Chinese style eatery of which none of the menu was in English, so it was a good job Jack was with us. After ordering curried fish balls and an amazing fruit salad bowl (consisting of virtually every fruit you could think of, all for about 40p) we picked up Jack's sister and wife and headed to the fish market.

The fish market - what an experience!! I have never seen anything like it before!!! Talk about getting your fish fresh - they were all alive and swimming about unaware of what their future held for them!!! Behind each of the fish stalls were seafood restaurants who were only too happy to oblige to marinate your chosen fish (or any other creature from the deep blue sea).

Following Emma's reactions as she walked through the market, I think it was only fair to say that Jack reaslised her dislike of fish and decided to give the seafood restaurants a miss. We headed off to a chinese restaurant where we sampled numerous local cusine.

After a very filling meal (think i have put on a stone since I got here) we sayed goodbye to Jack and his family and set off for a stroll down the star walk and then caught the train back to our hotel!!

I decided to go in search of this fabled wine but instead returned with a half bottle of very cheap vodka. It stung the throat but it was a change from the water!!

It was Emma who made that comment. I believe I would have lost that amount though over the past few days.
