Hey again,

Well for our latest trip we court the plan to Barcelona for five days. We decided to go cheap with a borrowed tent, a couple of mats and a borrowed sleeping bag from some friends. We camped about 45 minutes out of Barcelona at a camping park. It was a bit rough as they clay campsites, but it was the experience that counts.

Barcelona was a fantastic city. Full of some amazing architecture by the famous architect Antonio Gaudi, and an enourmous amount of muesums and art exhibitions. In short there was just too much to see. We visited the Maritime mueseum, the picasso exibition, and Ben went to the Leonardo Devinci muesuem while Stacey went shopping. We visited some of Guadi´s buildings such la Pedera, (a glamourous apartment building), and Le Sagrada Familia.

Gaudi´s style was evident in a lot of buildings around Barcelona. There is a big effort to continue his works, with the Sagrada Familia being a work in process due for completion in 2020. The tourists are also directed towards his works - without a knowledge of architecture it is obvious that he has been a major force in modern movements and captivates the largest audience.

And its a bit wierd. I mean his buildings are beautiful, the amount of intricate details and the ideas behind his design are breathtaking - He uses natural objects, shapes and ideas (sometimes mathmatical) to create a completely different look to a building that might have been "average". He made columns look like trees, ceilings look like foliage and used colour and shape to make things like chimneys and terraces look supernatural, almost alien.

But what got me that sometimes his infinite level of detail gave the building or the fascade the building an ugly look. One side of La Sagrada Familia looks like a giant mud-monster to me. Up close there were hundreds of figures each in interesting scenes of religous content, sadly lost from more than 30 metres back.

Our trip wasn´t all filled with nice buildings and musuems, we had a lot of bad luck all packed into the fun. Our first night we court the wrong train out to our campsite and didn´t realise until we were an hour out the other side of Barcelona. We ended up in a tiny little village where they only had one taxie and it was out, and there was no trains back to Barcelona that night. After many conversations with old men we headed to the police station to play our luck, but avast ye, there was only one taxi and a ham sandwich in the whole town. We ended up staying the night in a hotel and catching the train back to Barcelona the next day. We didn't feel that silly though, as we met a nice young lad who had court the wrong train twice before. We even had a picture taken to remember the moment. We also missed the last train home from Barcelona the third night and had to catch a taxie back, and when we went to catch our flight to go back to Vigo we realised the times had been moved earlier and we had to run to catch the plain. And above all it was raining on and off for three days. And that boys and girls is our story.......

Until next time Ben and Stace
