hi everyone, eventually got to Salt Lake City, almost 3 hours late!! Patience really is wearing thin with this Greyhound thing!! I was sleeping on the bus and all of a sudden a tyre blew and we were skidding all over the place. The driver came to a stop at the side of the interstate and everyone cheered him for stopping safely. It was the front tyre that blew. We were in the middle of Wyoming and not a house nor cow for miles around as you can see from the pics. So we had to wait till someone came to our rescue. The driver phoned Dallas, Texas to see what his options were and they told him not to let anyone off the bus under any circumstances because we were on the interstate. The smokers were not happy i can tell you. I was peeved aswell though, it woudnt have been so bad stuck for all that time if you could get out and enjoy the sunshine. A state trooper pulled up and we thought he would have let us off but he just gave the driver a ticket for being broken down on the interstate :-)
Drove quite a bit through Utah which is gorgeous and dramatic with the mountains and scenery. Salt Lake City is nice though quiet. They have beautiful buildings, i visited Temple Square which has great gardens but lots of Mormons trying to convert you. I was approached on almost every corner with people handing out leaflets and asking me if i wanted to speak to a sister.
The hostel is great, i ended up with a semi-private room with a tv which seemed like luxury compared to what ive been in recently. I couldnt have stayed in the dorm rooms in there, they were like 14yr old girls bedrooms!! You couldnt even see the floor! The house-keeper is Margaret from Milton who left Scotland in 1978 to come to America. She still has a bit of her scottish accent.
Went hiking yesterday into a canyon not far from the hostel but got scratched to bits trying to squeeze through tiny trails which obviously dont get used that much. Some of the passes were really steep with no barriers aswell and i realised i was daft being up there on my own as i could easily have slipped and broke something and i hadnt told anyone where i was going. It was a great view though but i didnt hang about!
So flying to Las Vegas tomorrow to meet the girls and i cant wait, im sure we will have a ball and looking forward to seeing some friendly faces!!
Bye for now x
