got woken up by the sun, shining down on me 😊 absolutely beautiful, warm, sunny morning.

so off we headed for our final destination of the trip, kings canyon. and yet another 8km walk. eep, don't think i've ever walked so far!!!
once again with the wow factor though. it was totally worth every second of pain trying to hike up what might as well have been a bloody mountain! it was so so steep!!! (thankfully it was all downhill on the way back 😊) again, saw many lizards and birdies - good fun this wildlife spotting lark!

we headed to the garden of eden, which is a natural swimming hole at the bottom of the canyon. it was so peaceful and beautiful, and 5 of us were brave enough to actually go for a (very quick) swim! the 'very quick' part being a) because we were all a bit freaked out that we couldn't see the bottom, and b) because it was like swimming in a bucket of ice! i don't think i've ever been so cold in my entire life! but it was such a good experience and something i won't forget in a hurry! cooled me down totally too, which was really nice because it was about 35 degrees :s not used to that sort of heat!!!! ahh, and for the record, its too far inland (ie, the middle of the simpson desert) for anything (other that the 2 random ducks we saw) to live in it 😊 goodo!

we climbed to the top of the canyon and all lay down on our fronts looking over the edge 😊 classic photo op! (i don't have one with me in, but claire is going to send me a copy of the photo she took...) bit scary though, it was an awfully long way to fall!!! as you turn away from the edge there are all the rock formation plateaus which look like they stretch for miles and miles. its the strangest thing to look at, i can't even begin to explain. apparently they call it a lost city. and when you see it, you can kind of begin to comprehend why. kings canyon really is the strangest place. as you're walking around, you walk through forest, desert and lost city all in one place. i think that i enjoyed that walk more than the other two.

(don't worry, she's only posing!)

so all that over and done with, 10 litres of water drunk and 24km walked over 3 days (!!!!!) we started back to alice - only another 300km!! we drove along another outback dirt road, but i think by that point everyone was so knackered that the excitment of seeing yet more camels and kangaroos was minimal 😊 but still, far more fun than driving on the M1!!!

we got back to alice at about 6.30pm and later that evening we all (minus vicky and laura - thank god for small favours! and claire - i don't think i mentioned that she was ill all weekend, but kept on trucking and didn't whinge once? she finally made it to the doctor who told her it was tonsilitis with an absess and she might have to have an operations :o !! poor thing. so we let her off.) went out to a bar in town called bojangles. brilliant little bar/restaurant! you can help yourself to complimentary peanuts from the hugest barrel by the door and when you've done you just chuck the shells on the floor! me and polly shared oysters (totally didn't like them :s) and morton bay bug (kind of like prawns i guess, but wasn't overly keen on that either) for starters then i had barramundi for mains (look at me trying all these new things!). oooh and i tried some of polly's guiness and camel pie - tastes just like beef, just for the record. the bar had webcam and is live on the internet everyday, and mum and dad were watching 😊 hehe, they requested a song for me (fix you by coldplay, awwww 😊) which was really really lovely 😊 so yeah, had a brilliant evening out, to round off probably the best weekend that i can remember!!!!
