I can't believe that its already time to leave for Germany. My plane departs Austin, TX a week from tomorrow. Its been a wonderful summer with a few fun vacations. In June I traveled to NYC with all of the women from the Brown side of the family! What a treat! We saw 3 shows, Wicked, Jersey Boys, and Mama Mia and had some incredible dinners out on the town. I was lucky enjoy to run into some old friends while in the city. I also recently spent some time up in Dallas visiting my grandparents and friends! Austin has been a blast even though its been raining and we haven't been able to really go out on the lake. Im hoping to get a little time outside next week before I leave. :-)
So many of you have been asking all about the program that I am about to embark upon. So, here you go...
The program is called the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals. We are a part of the 25th year of the program. It is open to those ages 18-24 with at least a high school degree, part of college, and some
work experience. I believe most of the group going are around 22 and just graduating from college, so I will be on the older end of the group. The program is broken into 3 parts, 2 months of language school, 4 months of University, and 6 months of Internship (which you are required to find by February).
I will be going to DC on July 27th to stay with Brenna and Rick in Baltimore for a night, then I will go to Georgetown to meet the other 74 CBYX participants. We have 3 days of orientation planned in and around Georgetown with some time to spend in the city and enjoy the sights. Then on July 31st we are off on a plane to Frankfurt as a group. From there, we will split into the 3 language schools. I have been placed in Cologne (Köln) with 39 other participants for the first 2 months. My address will be:
c/o Frau Bamberger
Mittelweg 1
50859 Köln
I am out in the suburbs a bit, but on the fast train line, so transfering in to the school every day will be a breeze. :-) We will be taking language
courses 5 days a week at the Carl Duisburg Center (CDC). The students at the school will vary from business professionals who are moving to work in Germany all the way to college student.
In October I will be moving to my permanent placement in Hamburg. I dont know any of the details yet as to where I will be living or what University at which I will be studying. However I will keep you updated as I learn more.
I can't wait to share this journey with all of you for the next year. I am sincerely blessed for being able to take advantage of this incredible opportunity and to have so many supportive family and friends!
