hey guys!
the blogs are comin in thick and fast these days huh? probably cause i'm not at the pub these days so i have more time in front of the comp...hurraaah! also, we're headed to sumatra in the morn and apparantly internet is a rare find so thought i'd get one more in before then.
actually not a hell of alot to say, as we've just been mulling about the 2 citys for the last week...
kuala lumpur was pretty cool. we stayed in china town, a colourful, bustling market area. we visited the telecommunications tower which is the fourth highest in the world at 450 metres. during the days we just strolled around the park and the malls, museums, mosques yadayada. the street food there is spot on, we scoffed countless satays and nasi goreng and such for a couple of bucks. it's the only cheap thing in the city though, the accommodation and booze is extortionate!
singapore is one huge shopping mall! crazy! i'v never seen anything like it! you go underground through a subway, attempting to get outside from the mall you've just been lost in for the last hour, only to
find yourself reammerging into another. the city is very wealthy, very clean and very, very ruled and regulated. ruairi hates it for all these reasons. says it has no soul, he keeps carrying on about it. i told him to get over it as he doesn't have to live here and we're leaving asap anyway. besides, think it's just cause we're broke in this fantastically rich and luxurious city.
on the other scale of things is little india, which is where we're staying. its, cheap and dirty, buts it's not too bad. my one gripe is that in the evening all the indian men gather in their masses just loitering in the streets, no women in site, just masses of indian men with stick-on moustaches and bowl n' burn hairdos like those little yellow leggo men you used to have as a kid with the interchangeable headwear! fully grown men just hanging in groups and lurking on all the girls that walk past. very creepy. our hostel is cool, above a pub called the 'prince of wales', has that touch of home!
so, thats brief and boring i know but bugger alls happened. happy to get outta the
city, i havn't seen sunlight in nearly a week...our room doesn't even have windows! head to sumatra in the morn for a week of volcanos and jungles and orang-utans!
