Ciao, tutto bene?

Saluto e abbraccio da Roma!!!

Finally I arrived in Italy last Thursday, when I landed at Roma Ciampino Airport after a 2:45 hr flight from Stockholm, Sweden. Then I took the bus to Ciampino station, and then the train to Roma Stazione Termini (central station). My hostel is just a 5 minute walk from Termini, so it was easy to reach. It's a great location, both metro lines in Rome passes through the station and I bought a one-week metro & bus ticket. The hostel is just ok, but below my expectations. In the hostel I met several people again from all over the world: from Portugal, Mexico, Australia, Brazil, USA, Poland among others. I arrived around 21:30 at the hostel, so I just went out to eat some pizza and went to bed quite early as I was very tired.

Rome itself is molto bello, I am totally impressed by the beauty the Romans and the other ancestors left behind in this city and also by the atmosphere in the city: the many squares, fountains, narrow alleys and streets, many people walking around (tourists and Italians). The traffic is pretty bad though: too many cars around, making noise and also a lot of scooters. Rome is for sure among my top-5 most beautiful European cities I've seen so far!

The next day I woke up at 7:30, to do as much as possible before the city starts heating up (temperatures reached up to 33°C yesterday). After buying some stuff at the supermarket, I walked to the Palatino museum & Roman forum and then entered the Colosseum. It was impressive!! I'm a fan of the computer game Caesar III, a strategy game where you have to build and rule a complete Roman city. A forum and colosseum are among buildings you should build when playing this game.
The rest of the day I walked a lot around the city and visited places like Trevi fountain, Piazza Navona, Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Venezia, Pantheon. When here you should try some gelato Italiano as well...till now I had Italian ice cream everyday!

Later in the afternoon I met my Aruban friend Mike Pochettino. We met at Ottaviano metro station and then we walked around and had some drinks. We went to a place called Time Elevator, a simulator which takes you to ancient Rome, and also to a small house which is completely decorated by human bones (it was build on and old cemetery).
I had dinner with two nice Brazilians (Rio de Janeiro) from the hostel, Maria and Dario, and in the night I went out to Campo de Fiori with two American girls, Juanita and Irma from the hostel, (actually Mexicans born in USA) and there I met Mike again together with his friends.
Yesterday I woke up around 12:00 and I was still a little bit tired (the day before I stayed awake for 20 hours!). I visited the Vatican city, the famous San Pietro square & basilica, and the Vatican Grottoes, which contains the tombs of several popes. After this I went back to the hostel, took a nap and later I went out with Mike and his friends again.

I still have to visit the Vatican museums, I will go tomorrow morning as you need several hours just to see the highlights. The museums are enormous and you'll never manage to see everything in one visit.

Tuesday I'm leaving Rome and head south to Campania, where I want to visit Sorrento, Pompeii, mt. Vesuvius and Napoli.

Take care all and have a nice week!

Hey Elton! come sta andando a Roma?
Hey neefie..hoe gaat het daar in Rome? Ik las dat het best wel hot is in Rome nu (33 graden oeii)!... Keep up with your dreams! Try it. En ook rond Testaccio is er een leuke tent called COYOTE!!Anyways....take care and enjoy!! Greetzzzz from your prima, Kamilah
