Well, after the noise and heat of Havana and the endless bus journey,(it was only two hours but felt longer), we couldnt believe it when we got to the Blau

it was really quiet,everyone was on the beach or in the pool.
i guess the place lacked atmosphere but then the fact it wasn't noisy was great.

We lounged on the beach,swam in the sea, lounged by the pool and swam in the pool, that was pretty much it for a week!(other than the dolphin thing).

The sea was amazing,very warm, blue and clear, the bottom was sandy and it was very shallow.

Other than the little island off Thailand and Cancun probably the best i have seen on my travels.(The South Pacific is gorgeous but full of coral which is great to look at but difficult to swim on)!

All incl food gets a bit tiring but at least you can pick and choose at the buffets.
the al la carte was ok, the string quartet were the best bit,but they tend to overcook their meat,(like the UK a few years ago)

The Drinks were fantatstic, wine, spirits and beer. esp the rums!

All in all it was a very relaxing way to finish the trip. would have been nice if there had been a town to visit but there isn't much to see out there other than where you stay, most people take a trip to havana but we had already done that.

would have liked to see more of cuba but its a big island!

Its funny, the Americans have the big embargo thing, and yet if at least they were allowed to come here on holiday it would probably show the Cubans kinda the other side of the fence.
If its happens though they have to keep starbucks and mcdonalds out, just have the tourists and the money they bring.

Varadero Beach
a cloudy day but the sea especially was amazing, very warm, very clear and very shallow, on a par with Krabi which was probably the other best water i swam in.Sand, no coral to stand on!

Main Bar
fantastic drinks and the place was really quiet.highly recommended.
Jim and Suttie would have been in their element!

Piano Bar
our fav, sparkling wine, piano music and a top waiter.people earn so little tipping really is the order of the day and it costs so little just a few pesos makes such a difference to them
especially when you are wallowing in unlimited food and drink

Varadero Sunset
from our balcony, the view and the sunsets were beautiful

Dolphin show
saw this after we did the interactive thing, its a saltwater lagoon,not a pool , a little commerical but they are amazing creatures

Dolphins
just like in the wild they like to have a look at you. would love to try to swim in the wild with them in NZ, if they remember to turn up!

Our Balcony View
Nice pool, pool side bar, tennis courts a Gym etc,etc.
nice for a week,bad for the waist line and the liver!

once she got the hang of the fins she was off! went looking for traesure and found a hair band!

Hotel interior
basically the interior is a huge open space with the rooms running round the outside

sparkling wine ,which was spanish cava and very nice,with a cherry.

any view from the front of the hotel but higher up is better. bacn sure you have a number of small notes etc cos you ll want to tip some of the staff, they re great :) enjoy, fab place. :)
