Home Sweet HomeHome Sweet HomeHome Sweet Home

In a few short days this homestead will be but a memory and we will be "travelling men and women"
Hi,

We just wanted to let you know that we are preparing for our trip west in about two weeks. Not only will this be our first RV trip and our longest vacation ever, but we will also be trying to keep a travel blog along the way (an on-line journal for non-techies like me. This will keep those interested appraised of our progress and hopefully buff up Ben’s writing skills for high school in the fall - he has been appointed the head Echterling Blogger for the trip.

We can set the travel blog up so that every time we post a new entry, you get an e-mail with a link that you can click on to take you right to our site to see the new entry. This entry should be triggering our attempt to do this for the first time. Let us know you got it by leaving a message at “contact Doodleloops” on our web site. Also let us know if you prefer not to have your e-mail on our list to get new updates - that is fine - no feelings hurt.

You will need to allow messages from webmaster@travelblog.org - some

This is one of the places we hope to visit in northern Arizona on a Navajo Reservation
spam systems will put these alerts into the junk box. You can do this by adding webmaster@travelblog.org to your address book.

I don’t know how often we will be posting new entries on the trip - depends on time, our ability to figure out internet access at our stops along the way and the fatigue of Mr. Ben’s fingers. I hope you all have a great week!

Chris

What the slot canyons really look like
I hope you folks do get to see the slot canyons just outside of Page AZ (which is also where Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell are located. I went there in 2004 and it's beautiful, but I also heard that there was a water flood through it and they were damaged (after I was there). You can see some of my pictures at http://picasaweb.google.com/drnetnow/Arizona2004WithPetraAndThomas and a word of warning to level set your expectations - if it is open a lot of people go there so you gotta wait for the good shots and put up with the wrath of other impatient photographers who want to get that perfect shot - the last picture on the attached link shows how much standing around there is waiting for people to clear out!

A Sedona Morning
We're in a peaceful Sedona campground at about 8 a.m. Mark is fishing with the boys and I thought I'd check email. This site looks great. I still haven't figured out how to do a trackng map and update it as we go. The time changes have been a bit of an adjustment. I didn't realize Arizona was 3 hours behind because they don't do daylight savings. I brought your itinerary with me and am going to pull it out to see where we overlap. Glad you are doing the blog. I'm still not a camper but this is a great way for the kids to see this part of the country. -- Maria
