The Great Ocean Road
The first test for the new van!
We decided to travel to Warrnambool via the B140 which is a road that runs parallel to the great ocean road and then work our way back to Torquay via the great ocean road or less glamorous the B100.
The weather was great on the road to Warrnambool, it felt good to be actually getting on the road and moving away from the hostel. We stopped overnight at a rest area in the small town of Creesy about half way to Warrnambool. There wasn’t a lot there in the way of life, just a very long road with a couple of shops, needless to say we left fairly sharp in the morning.
Later the next day we arrived at Warrnambool, we didn’t see much of the town as by the time we got there it was dark!
As the site was on the coast we decided to take the bikes for a test ride along the beach the following morning. The beach was great, white sand and rugged coast line, a little like silloth ha ha!.
The great ocean road is a pleasure
to drive; it’s the kind of road that you can imagine cruising in a porche convertible, long sweeping bends with a spectacular backdrop.
There seemed to be a view point every mile or so which we found quite funny as we had to pull into everyone for fear of missing out on something! The coast line really is quite spectacular and I would recommend anyone to see it some time in there life as it really does take your breath away.
The great thing about viewing the ocean road by a campervan is the fact that you can pull up almost anywhere and sit back and enjoy ;-) The picture above is of the shipwreck coastline at sunset, believe it or not the picture doesn’t actually do it justice.
We finally reached the twelve apostles, after visiting the London Bridge, The Arch, Sentinel Rock and Loch Ard Gorge. Like I said, we had to stop to see everything! The Twelve Apostles was something I had been dying to see for along time, needless to say it didn’t disappoint. Yes ok it’s just a few rocks sticking out of the beach, but if you were to see them
for yourself then you would know what I mean. The picture to the left is of the twelve apostles, again at sunset. No we didn’t just travel at night if that’s what you’re thinking, we stayed just down the road so decided to come back for the sunset.
Apollo bay was the next stop we made on the route, it’s a quaint little fishing village which serves amazing fish and chips may I add, yum yum! There is enough to do in Apollo bay for a few days as there is plenty of places to fish and also to body board as the waves are good!
The next part of the Great ocean road took us past the Otway Ranges, A large area of rainforest which stretches all the way up to the road its self, needless to say we had to take a look in, the picture below was taken just before I was viciously attacked by a silver back gorilla! ……..Just kidding I’m fine.
We finished off at Torquay where the Great ocean road ends, or begins. There isn’t really a lot I can say about Torquay, yes it’s a nice town but to be
honest we really didn’t do a lot there.
The next part of our trip is work we haven’t worked in almost two months now so I’m thinking its going to be a shock!
We had planned to do fruit picking for a few months just to boost the funds. After ringing around countless numbers of agencies’s and farms we discovered that the only available work was either at Brisbane or just north of Adelaide. As the work was due to start in two weeks we decided to travel to the north of Adelaide rather then have to make it up the east coast in two weeks and have to rush everything. The next time we update this blog we will of started work or maybe even finished it. For the meantime we are going to take a slow drive past Adelaide to the small town of Waikerie, bye for now lol.

Nice Pics
Hey there - you guys are doing some good work with the camera. Can I pretend that I took a couple of these....? We are finally back home now - going to take a bit of adjustment. Make sure to keep up with the blogs - you won't regret it later. Hope Betsy is still treating you well - or whatever you have decided to name her. Get the canvas fixed yet? Cheers!
