Change. Today started off with a trip up the road to "P.Zaz", the local salon.
CC had decided to take our youngest daughter, Joline's advice. Whack most of her
hair OFF! We have been married almost 31 years, during which CC's hair has never
been less than shoulder length. It has been as long as below her bottom. When we
walked through the door she anounced she wanted a radical cut which raised all
three hairdressers eyebrows. CC explained what she wanted and why, then said
that I was also to take a seat for some hair work. We had brought the camera to
record the event with before, during and after shots. Of course CC's
transformation was the greater, we both walked out looking real good. CC's face
fit the short cut quite well. The ladies at "P.Zaz" were great. They even
helped CC donate her cut hair to the foundation that makes wigs for children
with cancer.
After that we did our normal food shopping, CC took care of her shoe/foot
problems and we dumped the camera onto CDs and mailed them out to Matt. We had a
nice dinner and then came back to the room to repack. How is it that we send
gear home in an attempt to lighten our packs and they seem to gain weight? Why
does food weigh so much? Well such is the life of a long distance hiker. We have
two days chow and will be in Catawba on Thursday to pick up our next mail drop.
We have two short 9.5 mile days in a row to get there. Tomorrow it is back up
above 2,000'. We'll check in with you all from Catawba.

The Hair Transformation
It's me, the Scissor-hand! How much fun to meet Deborah and Patrick at P.Zaz and give Deborah her "new look" on the AT. An amateur hiker myself, I was excited to hear about their adventure and their "why?" I was delighted to hear about how their interest in the AT originated and all that lead up to their expedition. It certainly was a pleasure to meet them both and listen to their stories. I will be checking back and send good wishes to the journey's end.
