Bees - Thought for the day. While walking through the woods today a thought
struck us. There must be over a million flowers out here. We have yet to see any
Honey Bees. We have seen no bees other than Bumble Bees around the shelters. I
heard three or four radio stories about the Honey Bee business and the missing
bees. Something is causing the bees to disappear from their hives. After talking
to other hikers they have noticed the same thing, no bees to be seen. Just
something to ponder.
Rained at about midnight for an hour or so. We were up by 6:30AM, did breakfast, and were on the trail by 7:55. The humidity was thick as day old buttermilk. The valleys were filled with fog up to the 2,000' level. The temp started off at about 70 degrees with 95% humidity. By noon the clouds were gone and a light breeze cooled us once in a while. Started up Cove Mtn. Why is the first leg of the day always up? 1,925' to 2,720' in just under two miles, then down into Bearwallow Gap (2,230'), we crossed over the Blue Ridge Parkway five times down to Bobblets Gap Shelter at 1,920'. Had lunch then up over Harvey's Knob (2,530'), Montvale Overlook, Taylors Mtn Overlook, through Black Horse Gap into the Wilson Creek Shelter at 1,830'.
The trail was empty compared to the past couple days. Tom Duley, Pooch,
Butter, Stretch, Beat Box, Yorkie, McQueen, Breadless and TinTin. TinTin was a
real item! We have seen young men wearing Kilts and skirts, but this guy came
strolling into the shelter this evening in a Sarong! CC got the camera out and
TinTin rose to the event, pulled his Jedi Light Saber from his pack striking an
awesome pose. I'm sure Matt will post it when he gets it. The last few guys to
make the shelter were Ohm, J-Dog and Stalin. There are a couple of section
hikers: Old Fat Dad and Tenderfeets are here also. Most of the younger hikers are planning on going to Damascus, VA for "Trail Days." This is the biggest event on the trail. It is next weekend and we expect the trail will empty out about Thursday and then there will a human flood coming north about a week from
Tuesday. Tomorrow we will run into town, Daleville for Mother's Day off. We will also take a zero day on Monday. Then back to the trail on Tuesday.

hey guys
It looks like you guys are doing great! I cant wait to see this picture about the guy in the Sarong! It sounds like you guys are having tons of fun and I'm jealous. I am still pregnant although not any bigger of course. My baby shower was awesome and I managed to get everything that I need. I'll have to send you guys another note when she comes out. I have a feeling it won't be for awhile, she might even be stuck! Bet if you were here Aunt Debbie she would jump right out of my womb- I think she misses your voice! All my love- Jessica
