Salt Spring Island

Hmmm, tricky to remember. We went to Salt Spring Island in April for a long weekend. Usually we would head over to Tofino on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. It's stillness and tranquility is just beautiful and we really love it there. However, for this trip we thought we'd try somewhere different. Salt Spring Island is just off the coast of Vancouver Island. It's nestled and cacooned by the bigger island and the mainland not too far away. We took a BC ferry from Tswassen over to Swartz Bay on the big island and then another ferry over to Salt Spring.

We drove to the small town of Ganges. Ganges is well known for hosting the Saturday market and many come to peruse through the wares. Products are all locally made and you can find all types of nick nacks, food, jewellery, clothing, etc. We checked into our hotel and then wandered down to the harbour to find somewhere for a spot of dinner. After filling our tummies we headed back to our room for a good night's sleep.

The next day was Saturday so we walked down into the town and grabbed a coffee before wandering around the market. After an hour of browsing we went and got the jeep so that we could explore some of the island. We enjoyed driving around and stopping at different beaches or rocky points on the way. After an afternoon of exploring we went back to Ganges and found a local pub for dinner and drinks.

On the Sunday we decided to get the ferry and then make use of the fact that we had to go to the big island first and visit Victoria. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon in Victoria and we had a nice couple of hours wandering around the harbour and legislative buildings and a wee jaunt around the town. Lovely.

We whizzed back to Swartz Bay and got the ferry back over to the mainland.
