We returned to a scorching hot Sydney and stayed for a few days with Neil and Lisa. Here, we bought hop-on hop-off 45 day travel passes (for the Greyhound) to get us up to Cairns and then settled into having some fun in the best city in the world.
Friday night, we saw the Finn Brothers in concert at the Opera House, with the insane Mercury Rev as support. The Opera House itself is even more impressive inside than out and the main concert hall is perhaps the best live music venue we've ever been to. We even managed to get a roadie to give us a set list after the show.
On Saturday, we took the spectacular ferry ride across the harbour to
Taronga Zoo - the zoo with the view - where we spent the day ignoring conventional zoo animals and taking in the wierd and wonderful Australian critters : Southern Hairy-nosed Wombats, Koalas (should than be Koali?), Platypus (should that be Platipi?), Bilbies, Quolls, Gliders, Potaroos, Echidnas, Spinflex Hopping Mice, Possums, Roos, Emus, Wallabies...
On Sunday, we went out for a cliff walk and then lunch at
Manly (it was sunday, so yes you've guessed
it, fish'n'chips on the beach) with Neil and Lisa.
Oh, and we answered the eternal question - what does a wombat eat? - the answer was quite disappointing...carrots.
