OD
Well I'll start with last night. Real bad lightning, wind, and rain about
midnight. I woke up and did the flash to bang calculations, three to six miles
away - no problem go back to sleep. CC didn't fair so well, it was a long night
with bits of sleep off and on. The reward was a beautiful sun rise, and for the
first time on the trail we had a sunny day for walking. The first half of the
day was smooth and not bad up and downs. After lunch we hit a thing called the
"Roller Coaster and The Devil's Racetrack" both lived up to their name. We were
going to hike to a shelter way down the trail. Just about 5PM we came upon a
sign that said "Bear's Den" our scheduled stop for today. It is a trail hostel
and we were not quite sure what the game was. The walk up the hill was a long
one, CC was looking mighty tired and I was tired. I looked better than her but
it was just a show for her.
The Bear Den Hostel is a great place. You can get everything from

A trail angel from NYC we met along the way.
a room that
includes laundry, pizza, Shower, Ben and Jerry'y ice cream, free long distance
phone, to throw your tent and use the outhouse. We took the middle indoor bunk,
shower, and use of the kitchen. That happened to include some donated cherry
cobbler. We both feel 100% better and are looking forward to a fine night in a
bed. Breakfast tomorrow will be eggs and bagels cooked upstairs in the full
rigged kitchen. The real nice thing is I can fire these updates well ahead of
schedule.

Phone call
Mom and Dad... Thanks for the phone call last night. I can finally sleep knowing that you two are doing well and having fun. Make sure that you take your rests and your time. This is not a race but time for your selves. Mom I know this is a different journey for you but don't forget to look and see the different things, because you will wish later you did and feel like you missed out on things. I will send out the brown sugar and more gorp that mom is begging for that she also said she was not going to need nor pig out on. LOL!!!!! She was pretty insisted sounding last night on the phone. I just had to laugh. NOTE: Before my parents left they were at my house in Rochester and we were talking about the gorp, carbs and etc. My mom said that she was not eating alot of that stuff and my father looked at me and said I can guarantee that she will be begging for it because her body will be craving it. She said NO!!! Well, like I said I got that phone call and she said fill up the bags and send more and more licky and chewies :) Love you both. Keep it up and be strong and enjoy. Love, Micki
