First Day Out!

First we would like to send our heart felt thanks to Steve and Nate Yalle. They
got up at 0400 to pick us up and be on the road by 0500. Both were real
troopers and made getting to Harpers Ferry a real pleasure. Last night CC and I
decided not to spend tonight in town as the price is quite steep. So much for
well thought out plans. It took seven and a half hours to make the drive and we
arrived at ATC HQ at 1230. After the requisite photo and placement in the 07
logbook we were off. Steve had his video camera out doing some shots, said he
would try to get it to Matt for addition to the page. Weather could not have
been better, low 60s and a slight breeze. We had no real plan for the day so we
just started walking south.
CC's knees held out just fine and we made just over six miles, not bad for a
couple of old out of shape folks. I checked the packs last night at home and
both had gained a little weight somehow, 35 pounds for CC and 49 pounds for me. Quit about
1800, set up camp and made dinner then into the bag and do this, now 1949 and
just about ready for lights out. CC already nodded once and is now going down
for good. Neither of us slept much last night too wound up about starting. We
are both very excited that the walk has started. We saw a few weekend section
hikers, but for the most part it was just us.

until morning and head out again after some hot oatmeal. Good Night"

AT (AKA STRIPER)
Not sure if sent to right place earlier. Met OD and CC on Trail. Have a picture of the two I can email. Promised OD I could get him coffee that tastes as good as it smells. Need to know where to send it to. Just arrived home in NYC. Their spirits are high and smiles contagious.
