HALLO!
just a shy guy Sorry everyone, its been a while since our last blog in Oudtshoorn.
From Oudtshoorn we travelled to Wilderness, Plettenberg Bay, Storms River, Jeffreys Bay, Port Elizabeth and now to Cintsa. At Wilderness, Plettenberg Bay, and the famous surfers spot Jeffreys Bay we spent time battling the winds whilst collecting shells on the beaches.
Storms River is known for the worlds highest bungee jump at approx 216m, its also next to Tsitsikama National Park where you can take a zip line through the canopy. These activities were too expensive for our liking so we chose to hire some bikes instead and ride through the park to where the river meets the sea - Storms River mouth. An easy 22km ride through the rainforest with a stunning view at the end. We also had the pleasure of ride with Chris and Andrea from Germany (who we will hopefully see soon) which made the day even more enjoyable.
At Port Elizabeth we arranged with Mark and Heather from Canada (more people we hope to see again soon) to hire a car for the day and explore Addo Elephant Park. Most of the animals we had already seen at Umfolozi, however
on the road again
on the bikes at Storms River we were there to see the elephants and we saw plenty. We even had to slam on the brakes when we came across on elephant in particular. HALLO! Look at the photo, no it’s not a third leg.
Besides Addo there wasn’t much else to Port Elizabeth, only funny stories…
Tezz:
At Port Elizabeth we woke up after a restless nights sleep and I saw a bloke pitching his tent. I said “hello” to the guy and said “mate you should have heard the guy sleeping here last night, he snored like a tractor and I could’ve smothered him”. He didn’t seem to say much, I later found out that he was the snoring guy. He had to go into town that day to take back his broken tent, he got a new one and was setting it up again!
After returning our hire car to the airport, myself and Mark (the Canadian guy) had to walk through about 6000 people that had just left a grand final soccer match. Besides one white cop who was standing next to a black cop, we were the only two white guys in a sea of black people. It was quite
Potholes road sign
these are everywhere here. Watch out some will swallow your car! an experience. We felt like token white guys completely out of place. Luckily everyone was having a good time.
Back to Neetz:
From PE we headed to Cintsa (where we are now), another coastal town - population 2000. No danger mum! The backpackers here provides a free activity for the day along with many other things. On our first day we went to touch and feed two elephants which was unbelievably funny - it is like feeding a vacuum cleaner! After the free activity the backpackers provides “free wine”, we later found out it was 10 litres of cheap goon. Needless to say Tezz took advantage of the situation and laughed the night away after drinking probably about 2 litres of the stuff!
At Cintsa, Tezz has also had a go at surfing (no lesson required because “it’s easy”), but due to some terrible surf conditions it didn’t go too well. The water was just too cold for me, so like the motto here goes “if you can’t surf, sunbathe” so I did…and I got burnt.
Yesterday the weather was terrible so we took advantage of the free activity and went to a local farm school. The backpackers here
Beautiful Jeffreys Bay
the famous surfers spot fundraisers and donates to the school on a regular basis. The school is filled with children from poor families. As a result of the fundraising they are lucky enough to have a small computer lab, and food for the children. As a thankyou, the school performs a concert every week for the backpackers who want to check it out. Their singing is amazing, I almost cried. The kids have so much fun, and their smiles can’t help but make you smile. As a teacher I didn’t want to leave, I loved it! Our small group donated R1030 which was very generous according to the principal. This amount will provide the 208 students with two meals a day for a whole week. AWESOME! It definitely made my day, one I will not forget.
We will leave Cintsa on Sunday to go to Coffee Bay. After that its home to Durban to spend Easter with Granny and Grandpa.
Love Neetz.
Hey guys the photos are taking way too long to upload, I will attach more at Durban.
