WOW! today was a full day! I went on the "Rio by day" tour...it literally was. from 830am until just about sunset...I went all over. we drove through a favela (slums area), passed the arena where they hold Carnival, the Football Stadium (soccer for us Americans), SUgarloaf Mountain, Urca Mountain, Corcovado Mountain, Tijuca rain Forest and an amazing lunch. I normally don't eat when it's hot like this, but I could not help myself. It's a type of Brazilian Barbecue (Churrascaria). you get you salads and such at at bar, then they come to your table almost constantly with different types of meats. anything. Literally. from Chicken hearts (amazing food!) to ribs, to filet mignon and the list never ends. I think I tried a bit of almost all of it. I wanted to try more but my stomach said NO! Brazilian beer is good too! m Skol is the brand I've been drinking. But forget the beer...for now.

The Sao Sebastio Cathedral was gorgeous! not what I expected in Rio though...much MUCH more modern. I think that's why I liked it....it's cone shaped. When I get my pix developed, I have a photo of it from Corcovado!

after the cathedral is when we made our way back to Copa for the delicious lunch. I sat with Christian--a sweet guy from Montreal, a couple from Mexico and a Scottish couple on their honeymoon! the rest of the day we all kinda hung around eachother on and off. the Mexican couple was trying to hook Christian and me up, lol. Not that I'd mind---he was yummy! I do wish I would have remembered to get his info...we're both staying at Copa, but I think different ends. So we said we'd try to find eachother tomorrow, but who knows. He was cool, and kinda helped me out a bit. he spoke english very well, and spanish...and helped me a bit at the restaurant. I'd never been to anything like it. Overall, everyone I met on the trip was great! the were all so kind. Interested that I'm 'brave' enough to travel alone...

after lunch, we all loaded back up on the bus and made our way towards Corcovado. It was definitely the highlight of the day...as it was supposed to be. Christ the Redeemer is a very calming place. they were holding daily mass when we were there too! I got a picture of that as well--when I get my photos developed. you can see EVERYTHING from there. The football stadium, the Cathedral i mentioned earlier....ALL The beaches in Rio...it was absolutely PERFECT.

the train ride through Tijuca was cool too! the breeze was overdue and more than welcome today. just the drive through there was refreshing. the smells, the sounds. it was so tranquil--and it never hurts to have a cute guy next to you 😉

overall today was full, tiring, and more than worth it! I want to come back here as much as I can. I have found a new love. It's so different from Japan(my first love)... BUT i have to say--for those of you reading this have have lived in Misawa....downtown Impanema (the beach nearest Copacabana) looks IDENTICAL to Hachinohe's downtown. narrow streets, tons of lights and store fronts... funny cartoons advertising things. WILD...

I am drinking more Caipirinhas. they are the best think I've ever drank! 2 of them and I'm a tad tipsy...and i'm on my 2nd now, Lol! tomorrow is a day at leisure before I go to my Samba show at night. I will most likely rest on the beach, getting that spectacular brazilian tan 😊 Until then!
tchau!

Awesome
Hey kiddo I am quite envious of your trip, and very proud of you for taking it alone. I'm viewing things that I've always wanted to see, I guess it's true we live through our children's eyes. Can't wait to see more pix and here of your adventures throughout your tour/vacation.

Monkeys
Hey, glad to hear how much fun you're having. And I wouldn't be a guy if I didn't ask, Did you see any monkeys on your tour? I'm not really sure where the male fascination with monkeys comes from, they're just cool. I'm digging the black and white photos, well, all of the photos really. How about a pic of the people you're hanging with so we have a face to go with the stories. Eagerly awaiting your next entry, Robert

sadly no monkey...
I was at Sugarloaf yesterday and I didn't realize that there was a lower level....where we could see monkies and anything that decided to visit...I thought the lower level was the bathrooms! on the way back down Christian, the Canadian guy I was talking to got pix of monkies...have no fear! I'm spending 3 days in the jungle this weekend....so I'm sure I'll see some then...and from now on I'll get pix of the people I discuss :) tchau!
