OAMARU TO NASEBY ViA DANSEYS PASS & NASEBY VILLAGE

After leaving Sue and Ivans, somehow we got lost in the back roads of Reidstown and ended up heading south towards Herbert instead of West towards the Danseys Pass , Sheryll was navigating
at the time at the time (say no more). On the way to the pass we travelled through Livingstone another old gold mining area that my Roberts family had been associated with, however there is very little to show for the fact that it was once a busy town, we pulled in off the main road and drove around some of the roads, checked out the cemetery and located a memorial to a distant realtion on the Lory side of my family

We stopped at the Danseys Pass Hotel for some lunch and soaked up the history, this is a lovely old stone building that has stood the test of time.
We arrived at Naseby and settled into the Motor Camp our home for the next few nights was to be a caravan with a canvas awning, it was very comfortable and Naseby was nice and central for all the 4WD trips we had planned, it is also where my Gt Gt Grandfather had spent a lot of his time as a goldminer so the town has special interest for me. A lot of the towns old public buildings and shops have been restored to their former glory, the town has aprox 80 permenant residents which swells to about 4000 during the summer holidays, you will see why from he pictures I have attached. There is a great network of Mountain Biking tracks and there was bikes everywhere, we made full use of our bikes while we were there, it's much easier biking home from the pub after a cold Speights than walking.
