maya beach
Well now.....Kho Phi Phi......after the crappy beaches of phuket Micheal and meself headed to Kho Phi Phi....an island 2 or 3 hours from thailand. It was just stunning. We stayed on long beach where the snorkling was just amazing. The fish were so colourful the water so clear and the beaches so white. It truely was and amazing place. The only thing that i wasnt so carzy about is that it was peak season and you night as well have been in stockholm....there were thousands and thousands of swedes.....not that that is too bad a thing, micheal was delighted actually but i like a good mix of all peoples and cultures. We spent the days lying on the beaches of the little islands around us and of course we went to Maya beach was where as micheal reminded me every 5 minutes , the film the beach was made. I have to admit though it was stunning and i have seen no where else before or since that has even come close to this place!!!
The evenings were spent having meals with friends, the nights were spent partying and the days relaxing and swimming.
One of the days we went fishing for "big game" fish. We were all hoping to catch some whopper merlin or tuna but in the end we were quite content to reel in a few tuna and some other fish i still have no idea what they were. Another day we revisited Maya beach which was nice but the trip back was really rough. I mean REALLY rough. The waves nearly turned the little taxi boat over a few times and on another boat we heard so girl lost it and was on her knees begging for mercy and crying her eyes out. The waves were so bad the the spray was constant like lashing rain so micheal put on his snorkel and dive mask to see properly.....you had to be there i suppose but it was a great laugh.
The next day we decided to rent a Kayak and head out to shark point to spot some cool reef sharks but when we got there we did not spot any (mainly coz we werent so brave as we first thought we were when on dry land and didnt jump in the water) but our fruitless trip was rescued when 10 or 11 dolphins came right up to the kayak and swam passed us.....it was a great buzz indeed! We tried to call them back by slapping the water and making ei-er noises like in the tv programm flipper but they probably thought we were right spanners and just headed away from us.....thank god no one was arouund to witness that or we would have been thrown off the island!!!
Kho Phi Phi was hit badly by the sunami but has turned around very quickly indeed and is absolutely beautiful.
If you ever visit thailand you have to come here!
