We left the city of Loreto around 9 am after a night of dogs barking, roosters crowing and loud music! Around 7 am some guy was going around announcing something over the loudspeaker and then there was the loud bass sound blaring from someone's car......What fun! I took some other pictures of some of the side streets as we left the area since I had only taken pics of the touristy stuff! We usually like to avoid those areas and find out where the locals hang out! But when in Rome......yaddy, yaddy.....
Just outside of Loreto are some bays with blue and green waters. We noticed a few campers boondocking on the beach. I wish that we had gone a little further and camped there! The roads continued to be winding and curving for several miles. Some of the "curvas peligrosas" are well marked but others are not. NO wonder you see so many memorials dotting the highways!
We later crossed over the Sierra Giganta which offered some more absolutely fantastic scenery! Mike thinks that this has been the best landscape so far! Soon the spiraling curves gave way to flatter and greener terrain. We could actually see spring
water flowing out to form a small creek. What contrasts this peninsula has to offer!! Shortly thereafter we were back in the company of the cordon cactus . Although we were relieved to be out of the range of the "curvas peligrosas", the straight roads were, nonetheless, a little rough. The side roads we pass MUST go somewhere! Most are of rocky washboard quality. For example we saw a sign indicating a town called Jesus Maria about 25 km. down the road. The amazing thing is that cars here last as long as they do here when one considers how badly they are maintained and the roads that they traverse!
Then there are the "collectors" on the roads. The group is usually a group of young gals with cannisters collecting money for some charity. AT the side of the road is the police car and an officer standing by. Mmmmm??? What do you think happens if you do NOT donate??? The first one we asked for what purpose they were collecting--a sick person. Then there another group who was raising money for a girl in a pageant. I guess if the policeman is there, it means that it is
Typical dusty side street in Loreto
But could be ANY side street in any city....but there is the BEACH at the end of this road! legitimate. WE did not dare NOT donate! LOL! I guess it is better than begging. Mike is constantly trying to give little kids $$! Drives me nuts!!
This city, Ciudad de Constitution has a population of about 45,000. It is a nice town but seems to be pretty quiet for a Sunday. There is a great grocery store here called Ley and it is ALMOST like a good grocery store in the states. They did have some nice looking fish sitting right out but the stench! Wow! Same at the meat counter. Goat tripe is big here too. Quite unappealing to me! The city is inland so there is not a lot to do here. This is just a stopover here for the night and the campground is adequate. The area here is largely agricultural and has a few dairy farms.
