Dar TamlilDar TamlilDar Tamlil

Michele and I had breakfast just outside our luxurious riad room. Another perk of having visitors is that they aren't living on a Peace Corps budget!
Mostly photos today. Not much to say except that it was wonderful to have Michèle visit me, show her around Marrakech and host her at my home for a couple days. She was a guest speaker in one of my English classes and played interview with them, asking and answering questions. When I had my back tuned at one point she asked the kids what they had learned about American culture from me and one girl said that she learned that women can live alone and be happy with their career. It was an influence I hadn't thought about and I am grateful to Michele for pointing out that the differences I make are one more than one level.

As I have experienced with previous guests, it's refreshing to see Morocco and Kelaa through new eyes.

Michèle at the Menara

I have wanted to go to the Menara for over a year now and finally got there. I guess I just needed the right weather and company. We rested in the shade of the olive trees, admired the snowy Atlas and enjoyed the early spring weather.

It was just too got a shot to pass up. Michèle says the shape of the Atlas is just like the Pyrenees and even the combination of snow and palm trees reminds her of the mountains she grew up with.

This is the quintessential Marrakech landmark - seen from the back by the gardens. The weather was so nice we just walked around all day.

The square fills with fair-like fod carts at night, all serving typical Moroccan dishes like tajine, couscous and harira. It's carnival atmosphere every night.

A visit to my town isn't complete without a meal at Maryam's house. Her daughter Selma has grown a lot and is much more fun to play with now.

Maryam and Michèle are both English teachers, so it was an easy afternoon for me. I didn't have to translate and most of the conversation was actually in my language.
