Phebe, Patrick, Bob, Peter, Otto and I took the 11am flight to Seattle. I was so excited I couldn’t eat breakfast this morning.

When we arrived in Seattle, we found out our flight to Amsterdam was delayed by an hour. You could see the cowling was folded up on one of the engines on our plane while the mechanics frantically worked. “Hey guys, take your time. No really - DON’T RUSH!”

We boarded the plane and taxied for the runway only 30 minutes late. Then the pilot announced that we didn’t take on enough fuel and needed to return to the terminal. I guess it’s better to realize this while we’re on the ground in Seattle than somewhere over the North Sea. Finally we took off an hour late.

When we arrived in Amsterdam and ran to the departure gate for Cape Town. Peter and Otto hadn’t received their boarding pass for the flights which worked in their favour as they were booked into a row of seats by themselves.

We’ve been traveling for over 24 hours and were ready to crash only to find out the luggage didn’t make the connection in Amsterdam! I finally checked in to the hotel at 11pm, got into my room and shut off the noisy air conditioner only to find out I could hear my neighbours AC fan!

I woke up this morning to beautiful blue sky and sunshine only to realize it wasn’t the neighbours AC making all the noise after all but the waves crashing onto the rocks below. The hotel is on ocean front! Today is a good day.

New wardrobe?
Hey Jeff, Wendy said you went out and bought new stuff when your luggage didnt show up. Good thinking! How did you arrange to get your baggage lost? Good luck, I'll be following your trip from my desk in (today) sunny Vancouver.
